Guest sebset Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 here is the article : http://media.guardian.co.uk/newmedia/story...,884606,00.html
Guest almark Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Orange is lagging behind Vodafone, which reported sales of 380,000 of its Live! picture phones and said it expected to hit a sales target of 1 million by the end of March.
Guest Firaas Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Er, it was 50,000 a couple of weeks back? (According to a "The Times" article)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Rought estimate, give or take 10k sales...
Guest AsherUK Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Maybe they sold 50,000 but 10,000 got sent back !? ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Right chaps, so how do we get the other 37,500 SPV owners on here then ?!? ;) P
Guest tony_spv_2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 ...erm SPV has magical powers who knows, maybe it can use mind control tricks and send sublims to SPV owners and direct them here ;)
Guest pjc Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I think it depends what you are looking for in a phone. The Vodafone Sharp offering is very simple to use (especially the camera) so it appeals to people who maybe dont want to play music/video, develop software etc... Plus they have David Beckham in the advert and that almost guarantees every 14-16 girl in the country wants one of those phones!
Guest idoru Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 "]Right chaps, so how do we get the other 37,500 SPV owners on here then ?!? ;) P Paul, maybe you could negotiate with Orange UK to post a link on their SPV website to MoDaCo? I remember reading that one other European country does have a link to here - can't remember which and I am too lazy to search. Maybe worth a try!

Maybe it's not a coincidence that Beckham is advertising a SIMPLE phone! ;)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 Maybe it's not a coincidence that Beckham is advertising a SIMPLE phone! ;) He'd be no good at advertising the SPV he'd have to borrow Posh's brain cell so he could multitask
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 Rought estimate, give or take 10k sales... ...the "take" being the ones that got nicked in the UK a while back
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 Orange have said they are willing to post a link from orange.com to here... how cool is that? I asked them if they would put flyers in bills, but (unsuprisingly) they said no ;) P

Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 "Orange have said they are willing to post a link from orange.com to here... how cool is that? As of now, commending Modaco to customers can lead to an official reprimand. (I know... I got one.)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Any particular reason why?
Guest SirGaz Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Bit harsh getting a repremand for recommending this site.
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 "Bit harsh getting a repremand for recommending this site" It's "not an officially Orange endorsed site". 156 IS "officially endorsed. So, as an Orange employee... my commending it legally acts as a kind of endorsement, which is exceeding my authority. Plus all 156'ers are expected to sing from the same, official, hymn sheet; otherwise, you may tell a friend "I rang 156 and they told me to XYZ", then THEY ring 156 and are told (by a different techie) "WHAT? Never heard of it." Result... kind of a "lowest common denominator". I've been supporting IT since 286's were new and sexy. My support "philosophy" doesn't match Orange's, so I'm currently applying for other jobs elsewhere. Also, the imposition of new shift patterns means that, one week in three, I'm going to spend the night stuck on Bristol Parkway Station. ... (which would mean I turned up fairly early for work the following day, and will save me a fortune on rail fares!)
Guest Firaas Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 As of now, commending Modaco to customers can lead to an official reprimand. (I know... I got one.) Woops... I told someone in Orange Business Support that it might be worth recommending this site to newbies, and he agreed - shame.
Guest HelloDave Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Perhaps we should spell it out for the executives at Orange in the only language they understand, and who seem to find thinking a little too taxing - "Reccomending MoDaCo to SPV users could SAVE YOU MONEY on support costs!" They'd get less calls to 156 and less stressed customers, driven to distraction by some "tech support operative" telling them to "press the action key...now press down on the arrow pad...now press the action key..." (yes, i've been there - i was ready to smash the nearest window after about ten minutes of that; why they can't just say "go to the settings menu" i'll never know!)
