Shortcut to keypad / device lock

Is it possible to get a shortcut to the keypad / device lock feature? The hang-up button on my phone doesn't work properly - it thinks I'm pressing the right arrow button instead - so I need an alternative way of locking the phone when I want to put it in my pocket. I know you can press the power button once to achieve something similar but the problem with this is if I'm playing music (which I do a lot) it stops playback. I thought having a shortcut in the start menu or similar would be a reasonable solution. Any other ideas would be welcome!

What are you using to listen to music as neither Windows Media or TouchFlo3D's player stop playing for me when I press the power button?

I'm just using the TouchFlo3D player. I've only had the phone for about a week so I've not used it a massive amount; I tried pressing the power button when playing music a couple of times and the music stopped so I just assumed it was the standard behaviour. I'll have to investigate more!

I've just noticed that it does stop if you don't have headphones in, but continues regardless if you do have them in. Possibly some kind of power saving feature?

That could explain it, I've been using bluetooth headphones up until now so maybe they cause it to behave as if it doesn't have headphones plugged in. I ordered a mini-usb - 3.5mm adaptor yesterday due to lack of bass through bluetooth anyway, so hopefully that'll turn up soon anyway and that could solve the problem, although it'd still be good to find a solution to accessing the keylock feature some other way.

Thanks for figuring out the power button issue anyway!

Are you aware of the "Quick List" feature? If you press and hold the "hang up" key for more than a couple of seconds and release it, you should see a list of five options (with a small amount of configurability). The second off these is "Lock Device" which, having just tried it, seems to do what you are after.

I'm aware of the quick list, and that's exactly the kind of thing I'm after but the problem is that my hang-up key doesn't work! If I could access the quick list another way this would be perfect - it'd be nice if there was a "quicklist.exe" or similar somewhere but obviously things are never that straight-forward!

I wasn't aware of that setting. I've just tried it and it works a treat, but I really like the TouchFlo interface - although I know a lot of people don't use it - so that doesn't really work for me either :)

Thanks for the ideas tho, if you've got any others then keep them coming!

If the problem is with the "hang up" button, and you've just got the phone, shouldn't you be sending it back?

Alternatively you could try device lock, although it isn't apparent whether it works with WM6.1

When i get the problem with the hang up key moving the TouchFlo tabs the devicelock program doesn't work. It does at all other times. When it doesn't work I can press the home key and then hold the hangup key then it works again. Occasionally I do have to soft reset to get around the problem but I haven't had to do that for a long time.

I have had the issue in the call history where pressing the hang up key switches between Home, Work, Mobile, Txt on a contact that is highlighted aswell (as if I have pressed the right arrow)

I think it's a software issue rather than a problem with the hardware key and I have seen a few people mention it in posts before.

Have you tried the NavDbgTool? It may through some light on whether it is h/w or s/w

Technically I've had the phone for a few weeks, I was just being lazy getting my number ported to my new contract so although I've fiddled around with it a bit I'd not really used it in anger until more recently, so hadn't realised this was a problem, and now it's out of 14 day warranty. I'm sure I could send it back under the manufacturer's warranty but I can't be bothered with the hassle to be honest!

I didn't realise I wasn't the only person with this problem - the issue you describe sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing. That's quite comforting! Perhaps a 'Known bugs' section on this site would be useful. It's interesting that you say this might be a software issue; I'd noticed that a soft-reset seemed to solve the problem (albeit temporarily) so thought it might be software, but I just couldn't figure out how that particular bug could possibly be introduced in software. I just assumed it was something to do with the flat-button form factor of this handset.

I'll try the debug tool if it happens again but I haven't noticed it for a while and I generally soft reset my phone twice a day due to memory issues after using RSS, email or internet so maybe that's why. It was frustrating at first as I only ever had to soft reset my Magician once every six months but I'm used to it now.
