Guest taimex Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 I just purchased a Samsung Omnia i908 in Taiwan. Unforunately, only the Chinese version was available. I'm totally lost- I can't even figure out where the gps software is! I need to flash it with an english rom, but I just got through reading others nightmare firmware upgrade stories and I don't want to destroy my new phone! Has anyone been able to flash the i908 and succeeded? Any tips welcome!

Guest carry93 Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Hi taimex, I am from Hong Kong and also got a Chinese Omnia i908. I have recently flashed my ROM from Chinese to English and it is now running very smooth. But you may need to install some Chinese input to make the fonts better and also the regional pack so that you can set the regional settings to Taiwan and also the operator settings for GPRS, MMS configurations. There are quite a lot of ROM's here. I can flash the one for i900 also. Hope this help.

Can you post some links for that rom and the regional pack? Thanks a lot!

It appears i908 is for China/HongKong/Taiwan. In case anyone is interested. I just flashed my Taiwan bought i908 chinese version to i908 English version and was successful on the 3rd try! 1)tried official singapore- got incorrect version screen 2)Tried i908zhhh1_Eng after changing my preconfig to HongKong -rom downloaded fine, but when windows boot up, showed it was a beta version and wouldn't let me do anything (I freaked!) 3)Tried i908zhhh2_eng- downloaded in about 4 minutes. Everything works fine............so far. Any questions, let me know

Afterwhich, you can burn any other new custom i900 ROM. :)
Guest Edwin501 Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Hi Taimex, I want to buy this same product too, but just because of the language problem I've delayed it. After you have flashed yours, did every option still worked OK on it ? And are all the options still intact ? Carry93 mentioned to install Chinese fonts, regional stuffs and opperator for Taiwan. Did you have to do all of that and was is ok after ? If no problems with the flash and use, I'm gonna go for it. Thx
