omnia newbie - rom recommendation and tmob connection settings?

after craving for quite a while i now am a happy omnia owner too, got myself a nice 16GB model over ebay.

im not really new to windows mobile, but i guess ive become a bit spoiled in the HTC community what with

schaps tools, nicely documented rom update procedures and what not.

in comparison, im a bit clueless as to how to go on with my omnia from here. basically i have two issues:

1. i want to update the rom, obviously. the rom it has right now is pretty slow in some areas, i.e. ive seen

the contact list scrolling a lot faster than my device does it

2. not quite understanding the whole CJHXX letter concept here. could someone recommend me

something? i dont need the latest and greatest rom, just a fairly current and known to be no crap one.

preferably one that comes with manila 2D maybe?

3. i obviously need to reset my operator settings to be able to get a data connection. im on tmobile germany,

it tries to dial itself in to vodafone...again, this is a case of being spoiled from the HTC/xda dev community, where

youd just load schaps advanced config and have it do the settings for you. i guess here i have to do it myself...anyone

got a helpful link to a walkthrough? its quite cryptic and i have no idea where to start...
