Guest methadone Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Hi, I have a small problem with my new omnia. When I first got it I was amazed at the sound quality, as was people I talked to. But then something happened... Incoming sound is still as clear as ever, but when I talk to people they complain about lots of background static and when I use speakerphone they hear themselves via my phone as loud as they hear me. Any idea what is up with that? Did I break it somehow? Thanks.
Guest belcom Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I have people complaining that they can't hear me very well while I'm talking on my Omnia however there is no distortion or anything like that. When I speak directly into the microphone by turning the phone towards my mouth then it seems fine. I just got the phone a few days ago and loaded HK3 firmware which is officially from Samsung. Can somebody provide some input please? Are there any microphone sensitivity settings in the windows mobile phones? What can be done to improve this? This thing costs too much money to have problems like these....

Hi, You can try the setting either in the sticky thread about increasing sound volume (there are notes about mic on some pages there), or the settings at the bottom of this thread. I have tried all of those without any noticeable improvement, it is still a lot of background noise for the person I am talking with. At first I thought this might have been caused by me opening the SoundTester.exe some time ago, but I have tried a Hard Reset without any improvement. Also, the speaker phone function is completely unusable, the mic picks up everything the the person I am talking to says and they get lots of echoing and even feedback. Anyone else experienced this? Since it wasn't like this when I first got it is it possible the microphone is broken, or is there settings to control this (unlikely since a hard reset won't help)? Another thing to note is that covering the mic hole at the bottom with my finger does not change anything, however if I mute the phone the noise stops and if I unmute and - here is the weirest part - if I hold it in a special way, seems to be if I am touching it on all sides, the noise stops, until I lift a finger or two. Almost like there is a shortcircuit or leaking current somewhere...? :) My version: PDA i900XBHJ2 / XBHJ1 Phone: i900XBHI3 Thanks. Edited January 15, 2009 by methadone
Guest belcom Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I found something that would probably resolve my issue and possibly the feedback problem too. As I understand this allows to adjust both the speaker volume and microphone gain in the Omnia. http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...-volume-levels/
Guest nixxss Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 I found something that would probably resolve my issue and possibly the feedback problem too. As I understand this allows to adjust both the speaker volume and microphone gain in the Omnia. http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...-volume-levels/ just to add to this line.. i had this problem happen about 3 months after i got mine.. My gf is with another provider and kept bagging my network saying everytime she called me she got an echo on her side.. I then started asking people for feedback and everyone said that if i turned the speaker on, they would hear an echo of their voice.. I tested with other handsets and it was just the i900.. so i tried different firmware and tried going back to the most basic and original i could find with no luck.. Then tried taking phone back to provider saying there was a problem and they rejected as i had change firmware. I put up with it 4 a while, then tried unlocking handset so i could try a different network.. my provider couldn't help me and as they had stuffed up (u only get 3 tries..) they offered to change the handset and get me a brand new one.. i now have a brand new handset and upgraded the firmware and have NO echo problems now.. so i can only assume it was the handset after all.. Fustrating thing was when i took it in, sometimes u could hear the echo and sometimes u couldn't.. i'm not touching the volumes now.. and found with sectors cooked in srs feature, its loud enough.. not nearly as good as my N95 which had stereo speakers, however it will do.. I still want to get rid of the ringtone problem though.. the initial quiet then loud problem..
