Guest enterusernamehere Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 So the wife and I would like to get omnia's. I seen the tether hack listed in this forum and would want to do that. Is it simple enough for a noobie like me? The big thing is that when we looked at them the texting qwerty keyboard in landscape mode was much to small. I know it comes with a stylus but would prefer to not have to use it. Is there a way to make the keyboard finger friendly? I seen that you can change between the program display ( not sure what they are called) . I think today 2 and touch flo were two options. Sorry I could not find it again to elaborate. Would either of those have a larger qwerty keyboard. Thanks in advance and sorry for being so clueless. I know my wife will want to go get new phones tomorow but I want to mkae sure this phone will or will not be what I want. Joshua
Guest zyc3 Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Hey mate when you get your omnia If you pm me I can give you a link for teeter that you dont need to use hacks or anything you just install the file and it works (and its free ofc). Dunno about your keyboard dilemma i find it rather fine to use it landscape as long as you have the touch screen aligned well.
Guest Natsirt Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 i believe texting is the same on the omnia no matter what.. well.. i havent tried the spb shell .. i have only tried the default and the manilla 2d.. and both had the same keyboard.. if u align ur screen well like zyc3 said, u should have no problem.. or u can change the texting style if u wish.. to a regular phonepad or the other one with the 2 letters on the 1 key.. or alternatively.. if it still dun like those options, u could try another device like the HTC touch pro.. or xperia.. which have slide out qwerty keyboards.. they might be easier to operate..
Guest X-Ray A4T Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 I've found if I hold the Omnia in both hands in landscape mode and type with my thumbs pressing my thumbs over the letter I want it is pretty good at selecting the correct letter even though my thumb might be covering a couple of letters around the letter I want. I find this better then trying to just click on the letter itself with a finger nail.
Guest Natsirt Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 i forgot to mention that u can choose to use predictive text input.. its quite good and really quite accurate.. txting should be a breeze if u have mastered it :)
Guest enterusernamehere Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Well I was correct in my assumption that my wife would wake me up this morning to go get new phones. We got the omnias. This time when we looked at it the keypad was much larger. I do not know what was up with the tiny keyboard that we originally saw. Now it is time to start to learn to mod these things. I know I have a lot of reading to do and will check to see if there is a start here guide that explains all this stuff a little better or if you just have to be a techie to understand half this stuff. Any suggestions where to start. I know I want to be able to tether for free my main concern is about security though. Is it safe to install one of those cab files?
Guest bpivk Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Cab files are usually safe i never had a problem with them but you should know that (as with any OS) you can crash your phone if you install an unsupported cab. But hard reset fixes things and that doesn't happen often. Check Paul's must have FREE i900 Omnia software for some great software. You should also try and update your rom if you don't have a never one already. so you can check the rom section as well. But you'll have to be carefull because you can brich your phone that way.
Guest monsterpt Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 I assume since you are from US and probably got your phones from a verizon carrier. If this is the case be aware that the available ROMs do not all work with the i910. Try your phone for awhile with the touchwiz interface (download Today 2 - links available throughout MoDaCo) then tweak it a little at a time. The i910 standard samsung ROM is not as stable as it could be and some programs are not fit to be used on it yet. I trained myself to try no more than one new app per day and test it thouroughly before moving on to the next one. This way I can remove problem apps without confusion.

When using the keyboard you will see a small arrow on the bottom bar , this arrow you can use to trigger a pop-up menu which lets you choose among several different keyboard styles/layouts.
Guest bpivk Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Well yes i forgot to check where you're from. Don't flash I910 only i900. :)
Guest Natsirt Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 ah.. you must've saw the windows keyboard :)
Guest owlmatt Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Has anyone tried to get the Samsung Eternity keyboard on the Omnia? It is really smooth and easy.
