Omnia Speed dial? How to use? Or how can I mke it faster?

On my Omnia I cant get speed dial to work (or don't know how). I know how to set a speed dial number but not how to call it. On my old Samsung if I wanted to call the person set as say #2, all I had to do was press 2 and then send. On this phone the only way I see how to do it is:

Phone>Menu>Speed Dial>then the number and it calls.

If you ask me that's not very speedy at all. Any help? Is there an app that can make this work better?
