well we all know about turning the xtra data off and on

i did not have a data connection in the past so i used the gps hack(remove logging) and disabled downloading of the XTRA.bin file.

that worked for me and i had a fix within 1-2 minutes.

now i am having an unlimited data connection with my mobile phone so i decided to turn on the XTRA.bin download.

when i startup igo8 i also get a message that a gprs connection is made.(why) because the xtra.bin file is allredy downloaded)

as soon as i plot a destination it starts calculating the route and is showing a gps fix

loks good sofar but this fix is not accurate at all and it does not show me the location i am at.

i chexcked the satellites and it shows at least 4 green satellites so this should be an accurate gps fix.

somehow it thinks it is at another position.

after driving a minute or 2 it suddenly dumps to the road i am driving at and everything is ok.

does anybody else has this weird experience.

without XTRA GPS enabled

no satellites showing

after 1-2 minutes fix

with XTRA GPS enabled

instant fix, at least 4 satelliotes showing in green

position not accurate at all

i must say that logging is still disabled in the registry

is there perhaps a relation between enabling the xtra download and logging in the registry

does it perhaps need those logging files to correct it's position

thanks

My Igo locks within 1-2 minutes with or without the xtra downloaded. It marginally faster with xtra refreshed, I just get a few yellow sattelites straight away. No instant green ones. And no issue with positioning. :)

well i dont really have an answer, but i also noticed this or something similar. i used tomtom and mcguider and they both reacted very fast to XTRa GPs but igo seems to have problems with it. If i manually download the file it goed pretty fast but if (on the way back) forget to do it manually again the fix can take minutes (longer then on my old e-ten). On time it actually put the cursor in this blue area witch seemed as water and it took quite some time to pop back to the map (the road i was driving on)

so no solution but just confirmation. i have to try igo a little bit more to be sure. If i find anything i will let you know
