Guest abu123 Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) Updated 24-01-2009 I have developed a mort script (my first) to Toggle Brightness as described below. Set the backlight to either automatic (i chose this) or a fixed brightness of your choice. The script when you run it fom progammenu will toggle from this setting to the Brightness below the normal dimmest setting thus helping to save some battery life. Then in Bright Sunshine Run again to return to the initial brightness setting (in my case automatic). Works fine for me. Requirement Will need to install mort script runtime application from here (freeware). Download ToggleBright.cab Let me know if it works for you! -------------------------------------------------------- PS If anyone knows how to read the lightsensor output - please share --------------------------------------------------------- The Omnia battery load is relatively poor esp if you use your radio's freq particularly HSDPA. The normal lowest backlight level in the Omnia is much brighter than all my prev HTC devices, and I feel this contributes to the battery load. When the device is in screen lock (inbulit app) then this is a much lower backlight level lower than the nomal backlight brightness range and is not implementing the auto brightness adjustment. This lowest state can be easily produced by unticking the setting below in the attachment. Settings > system > power> batterypower > Turn on backlight when button/screen... However in the Sunlight this is usless even if the Auto Adjustment is slected. However if you tick the aforementioned box then it is fine. But to do the acutual ticking in the sunlight is difficult. Therefore An app to toggle this tick/untick and apply would be great. Screen01.bmp Edited January 25, 2009 by abu123
Guest abu123 Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) If wanting to make a bit more challenging, and to auto toggle at a certain percentage of the lightsensor (say 80%) and toggle back to 0 when falls below say 50%. how would one do this? does the light sensor alter any reg keys according to its status? any help on this would be appreciated. thanks Edited January 25, 2009 by abu123
Guest lastnikita Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 (edited) Ok I gave it a shot... strange :-/ it will actually change the reg entry each time, but for some reason this won't change the device's behavior each time.. :-/ Please test and report. 2 little annoyances: it won't switch from one state to the other, so I had to make two shortcuts. could be done by scripting, but I don't feel like it.. especially if it doesn't work well. it won't tick/untick the checkbox, but it will be effective in registry. enjoy :)lastnikita_backlight_switcher.cab Edited January 24, 2009 by lastnikita
Guest abu123 Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 (edited) try the following mort script which works for me as a manual toggle. it is as post 2. obviously anyone trying this will also need the latest mortscript installed. copy to anywhere on device and run to toggle. run aggain to toggle back let me know if any problems I wanted to know how we can read the light sensor to automate the process. any ideas? Guest abu123 Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 lastnikita - thanks for trying. much appreciated. OFF works but you need to wait 10seconds (string for batery timeout) befgore it dims. ON gives me the following error. Screen04.bmp
Guest lastnikita Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 (edited) really strange since they both use the exact same command, dunno what to think about it :-/ Edited January 24, 2009 by lastnikita
Guest abu123 Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 Here is a cab to try for any one. Let me know if it works! Will append to first post.ToggleBright.cab
Guest lastnikita Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 really strange since they both use the exact same command, dunno what to think about it :-/ if someone ever comes up with an explanation to this, I'd like to understand why it doesn't work reliably (as the reg entry is correctly modified)
Guest abu123 Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 Some feedback from anyone who's tried this (cab in first post) would be encouraging. I hope the silence menas theres no problems!
Guest lastnikita Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 well at least I know how mine work now: ON works perfect, but OFF will only work once I enter the power settings, go to battery tab, and validate (even if I don't change anything). I still can't explain why..
Guest abu123 Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 No one have any Idea how to read the sensor? I found some .net API's i think reading the dll but way beyond me. Project did load in MS VS2008. a nice reg value read would be much easier. Also G-light (maker of G-Alam) doesn't supoort omnia.
Guest vansh Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Some feedback from anyone who's tried this (cab in first post) would be encouraging. I hope the silence menas theres no problems! not working on my omnia btw thnx
Guest abu123 Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 not working on my omnia btw thnx Did you download Mortscript runtime as in first link from their website? Here is direct Downad for package, install this to device (i'm not sure if can run from storage card) is your omnia i900 or i910? let me know if ok
Guest MiMa Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 abu123, nice work! On mine with Mortscript 4.11b it works like a charm. Thanks again for this great little app!
Guest Merold Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 MVBklight or SPB Mobile Shell are able to modify screen brigthness beyond the limit (2) given by Samsung to 1 or 0. It would be nice if the max. an min. brightness values for automode could be adjusted. Maybe you don't have to know how the sensor works but find out, which programms use it and modify them a bit. Lexem

Guest susuman Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Haha, though it may be so late, but I just want to tell Abu, your solution works on my Omnia II!! Been looking for it. Since the AMOLED is very bright in Omnia II, lowest backlight brightness is still too bright to use at night, so turning the backlight completely off do the trick . Thanks a million :P
Guest SilverPony2001 Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Been looking for something like this every since I got the omnia. I always hated having to go into the power settings every time I wanted to dim the screen more. Just wish it could be integrated in the light sensor so when it got dark enough around your phone, it would automatically kick in.
