Omnia n00b - few questions before I brick it

Recommended Posts

I've recently got myself an Omnia, and I'm pretty happy with it. There's a few things I'd like to tweak though, and I'm always looking for improvements to responsiveness or interface.

I know very little about phones but I am fairly PC savvy (built my own, upgrade it, etc.). I have updated the phone's firmware once already from the samsung site.

My current version on the phone says :

PDA : i900XXHJ6/ACHJ2

PHONE : i900BUHJ1

I am on vodafone.

Things I like and have :

google maps.

opera browser

office

Things I would like :

even better browsing, if possible, youtube etc.

even quicker, more responsive, 'feel'

nicer feeling interface generally

close X to actually close stuff (yeah I know there is a prog or two for this I will investigate further after the rom is decided)

longer battery life

Now - after browsing around I'm close to trying to put this rom on it :

Or perhaps this one :

Or maybe even this one :

Or this one :

But I'm a bit lost as to which might be best. I don't know if perhaps some of those might even be downgrades, based on official releases earlier than the one I have. I have no fear of installing stuff separately that might not have been included in the rom, though.

I know all stuff is done at my own risk, but I'm a tweaker, what can I say. I'll be trying at least one of the above even if I get no replies here. So - any tips / warnings / recommendations / etc.?

Oh yeah - and one last thing - I can't seem to back my phone up? Either with Activesynch (no menu item I can see) or samsung's MIT wizard (crashes on me ...). I'm not that bothered right now as the phone is new and has very little on it, but I will need to backup sooner or later. Any tips for that?

Thanks!
