Guest za3boto Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 I use windows vista with windows mobility center, and I chose to connect my omnia to the pc without setting up activesync and that worked great for me. I used the phone for a while, and changed the contacts file as setting to "First Name Last Name" instead of the vcards default "Last Name, First Name" (Imagine how much time I took to do that given that I have around 250 contacts and I had to do that one by one!!!), I also added some notes and calendar items and anniversaries. Then I decided to setup active sync to synchronize data to my pc (boy, what a mistake!!!). The phone's contacts (phone numbers only) were added to my outlook contacts (which where email contacts only). Now there's a mess of contacts in my outlook sometimes I have more than 1 entry for the same person but appears with a different name. To top it off, since active sync synchronizes data every 10 seconds I guess!!! it overwritten my phone's contacts phone numbers with their email only version (happy me). Later I learned the following lovely facts: 1. In case of conflicts, active sync considers the outlook data as the primary source and overwrites the phone's data. 2. Apart from outlook or active sync or windows mobility center, there are no way of synchronizing data to my phone. 3. Synchronizing has no setting for scheduling or turning it off or setting it to manual sync. 4. I cannot add my phone contacts (which I setup the file as option and saved in individual vcards) to my phone unless I add them 1 at a time. So I decided to end the partnership with my phone and return to my first way of connecting the phone without syncing, and the surprise was . . . . . . did you guess it yet? ALL MY CONTACTS AND CALENDAR ITEMS AND ANNIVERSARIES AND NOTES WERE GONE!!!!!!!! (can't find a smiley face from the menu to express my feeling except AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!) well, active sync sucks. and I don't know if it's possible for providing an alternative here or adding a link to an existing one. appreciate any ideas. meanwhile stay away of activesync and you'll dojust fine
Guest moe_szylak Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 The real BS is that to sync your contacts to a Vista machine you NEED Outlook. I never planned on buying Outlook as I mostly use web based mail and Vista comes with Windows Live Mail and a calendar. There should be no need to buy additional software just to sync contacts. I recently had to do a hard reset on my Omnia and had to manually re-input almost 200 contacts. Thats F**ked up in my opinion.

Guest gtr73 Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I hate Activesync. What a frustrating, unreliable piece of crud that might work 1 time out of 10. My 4yr old son could write better software than the retard that came up with Activesync.
Guest rcicu Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 you can sync with gmail via exchange.... No Outlook
