My wife, having reached here upgrade date with T-Mobile, like me wanted the HTC Touch HD. However, with no sign of this handset likely to appear on T-Mobile, she decided to settle on her 2nd choice of the Samsung Omnia. However, we were advised by both T-Mobile Upgrade Services & our local T-Mobile store that once all stock is depleted they will not be getting anymore in. There were none available direct or at our store.

I also noticed the handset does not appear on the Orange website. Again, when questioning the staff in our local ORange store, they too said that they would not be re-stocking once stock is depleted.

I was under the impression that this was a popular handset with good reviews and good sales.

Why does it seem that it is being taken off the shelves already? Is there a good reason not to go for this handset?

BTW, she has taken the HD on Orange. Shame to leave T-Mobile as they have great tariffs, pity about the handset choice.

From T-Mobile UK today.

"Dear Customer

Thank you for upgrading your T-Mobile phone.

We’re really sorry, but the Samsung Omnia phone you ordered has been discontinued and we won’t be getting any more.

We understand that this is disappointing, and we apologise for the delay in your order being processed."

Luckily I picked one up from a shop already!!

Yep, I can confirm that Verizon here in the US just dropped the price on the Omnia and my man on the inside indicated it's as good as gone as soon as they're sold out. Here's hoping my warranty covers a replacement phone of equal value should anything happen.

Any word from your guy at Big Red whether or not they will still be releasing the ROM update with unlocked GPS that they were promising at the end of last year?

are you guys serious!

this is perfect!

this means that by next year (for us the US) we can file an insurance claim and more than likely, it will no longer be available.

that being the case the HAVE to give us something equal or better!

so...if i can just keep my phone good for a year...when microsoft gets a better OS on the powerful phones they are speaking of, i`ll get it for $50!!!

PERFECT!

this is actually good news to me!

but...i dont understand...what is it about this phone that it just did not catch on.

i mean...i dont get it...

Me either this is by far one of the best phones out in the US why people are not jumping on it is amazing. I think it has alot to do with how verizon has been marketing it... They havent been. They have been advertising the hell out of the Storm on everything from commercials, radio, billboards, flyers. but i have yet to see ANYTHING for the Omnia. Well correct that today when looking at the VZW site i saw introducing the Omnia. thats the first i have seen for it. This si the phone they should be hypeing up not that hung o junk called the storm.

Edit: and the price on the Verizon site has not dropped yet still the same 199. with 2 year contract it has been since release.

Both Vodafone and Orange deny these rumors. Easy enough to check via google. Seems like most, if not all, of the rumors began at one website, some UK Money savings website.

So they're just rumors right?

I'd assume that they are rumours, as this was said about two months ago, that the Omnia was being discontinued for its troubles. But it wasn't and a month later it was released in Australia, so I doubt, it will be discontinued any time soon.

Ermm, the quote from T-Mobile above, from me, was from T-Mobile after placing an order for one. Shall I repeat it?

i read somewhere that Samsung was dropping Windows Mobile? Anyone heard anything like that? It might have something to do with this if it is at all true.

Either way i dont give a crap if any1 drops it. Im using an unlocked Australian Omnia on my T-Mobile Account in the US lol....i could care less either way.

Tesco in the UK have started selling it in store as well as free on selected tariffs.

Unfortunately no mobile staff were around at the time to give information on network and tariff.

Obviously, I cannot speak for UK customers, but over here in the US, usually the reps don't know what they are talking about. As for these rumors, as mentioned above, stem all the way back from October. I mean, call me weird, but I would think there would be more than one lone thread at Modaco if this were truly the case now.

Maybe not. can we get a screenshot of that email, minus personal details? Just because someone said it in a thread, doesn't mean they aren't lying. Once again, no offense, but forums have taught me to be suspicious. Especially when it is still listed on their site.

I actually ordered it through that very site, and got the email a week later. I've deleted the email, and couldn't really give a toss what you think, as I managed to get the last Omnia in stock at one of the 8 stores within 30 miles of here. All said they weren't expecting anymore in and only 1 of the 8 had one available.

Couldn't give a toss eh?

Thats mature.

So's implying that information given in good faith is possibly from a liar. At least mine wasn't a slur on your personality.

And I really couldn't give a toss what you say, as I have all the facts I need. I'm just trying to pass them on. I shan't bother again.

Hi,

OP here. Hadn't received any email notifications of responses to thread, so surprised to see so many.

In answer to an earlier question, I am in the UK & it was specifically the UK market for which I was talking about. I have no idea of what is/isn't available overseas.

Both T-Mobile and Orange still have display models of the Omnia in my local stores. T-Mobile still show it on their website, but Orange do not have it on their's anymore.

I was told by T-Mobile reps both instore and via their upgrade department that there were none available via these two locations, and once all stock was depleted they wouldn't get anymore in. For Orange I only spoke to one of their reps in store (so could be BS), who told me a similar story. Although that particular store did have a couple left.

I am very surprised that it should be phased out so quickly, but I personally get the impression that the "big four" networks are all focussing on there "flagship" exclusives and don't want to risk anything jeapordising the sales of these handsets.

O2 = iPhone

T-Mobile = G1

Orange = Touch HD

Vodafone = Blackberry Storm

I am currently on T-Mobile, and they keep insisting that the G1 is their best selling phone and that I really want one. I really don't though!

So even though Orange's exclusivity on the Touch HD should be ended by now, I think it seems highly unlikely that any of the other networks will pick it up.

Unfortunately it seems that the Omnia is the casualty in all this, as it was not the subject of an exclusive deal and over-hyped marketing.

Dont get your panties in a twist.

I never said you lied. I said that just because someone posted it, doesnt mean otherwise. Tell me you have never read lies on a forum? Seriously?

Do you need a hug?

No hug required, just basic trust. It would appear my "story" is backed up by the OP anyway.
