Removing Port Flap tips

Hey I'm not sure if anyone can help but i'm trying to remove the port flap that covers the headset/data cable port on the omnia as it just gets in the way, has anyone managed to work out the best way to do this without damaging the phone/flap? As it looks like it won't come off by simply pulling as the plastic cord looks like it would snap off... :)

I would be interested in this as I need to get a new one as the existing one is snapped ... really bad design.

my one gripe/wish for this superb device is a 3.5 jack socket !!!
