First, make sure you do a full hard reset every time you retry. Second, wait 5 mins after each try for the phone to process the xml files, then check your favorites.

You do realise you have to copy them back while the phone is in the middle of hard reseting? I'm not sure from you post so sorry if you already realise it.

Basically the phone creates these files when it is hard reseting and then reads them in a bit later. The hack works by copying over the files in that space of time in between so that you files are read in.

If you haven't copied the files by the time the home screen comes up, you're probably too late...

I set the SIM Lock on mine as suggested on the 'Unlocking Your Phone' sticky folder. That gave me extra time to copy the files across before the homescreen kicked in.

So, Set the SIM Lock, Reboot the Phone, Edit and Copy the Files Across, Enter SIM Code, and Pray! ;)

Think that's right anyway, damn newbie status, nobody's gonna believe anyfink I say! Gimme a promotion!

hi fellas,

I tried the ay you advised me and it really worked and got my phone unlocked for applications. thanks a lot for that.

You were right the mistake I used to do was that it used to be too late for the file to be copied back the 2 files to windows.

Thanx again for you all who helped me a lot.

Wish the best luck for you and this really useful website of modaco. ;)

Hi Please please help me! (soz if this has been asked b4, but ive been reading thru the forum for 2 hours now!)

I cant see the bits of the 2 files that need editing. I can edit the security policy in mxip_oem_10 fine, but there is nothing related to security policy in mxipcold_oem_10. Nor are there browser favourites.

I have opened the files in word and done a search for them - but they arent there.

Also when i save the files they are saved without the .proxml extension.

Owe a great debt to anyone who can help!

I am at the end of my rope. I have done everything that everyone else has done - 2 DAYS NOW - I get as far as setting the phone in the cradle while the blue screen is on, then I try to copy the files over. I am not allowed to copy the files over until the main screen comes on and syncs, putting all the spv window folders into the open Windows Explorer. What am I doing wrong???????????

Have you managed to copy them over yet ?

If you still can't get the timing, try this - it might work?

It may only be one provxml file that needs editing but I'll state both

Use Ctrl+mouse and click both provxml files on C drive to be copied.

Press Ctrl+C to copy both files into memory

While the phone is booting up in the cradle.

Click on the Smartphone/Windows screen (shown as white empty screen).

CONTINUALLY press CTRL+V (paste files from memory), start just before the activesynch connection and continue clicking until paste confirmed.

press OK to overwrite files.

I am having the same problem as Virginia, where I can't access my phone until it's on the home screen which is too late.

I did a search through all the .provxml file sin the windows folder because I too couldn't find security or favorite information in mxipcold_oem_10.provxml but my search found the required information in the file mxip_smartfon_1.provxml

Should I change the information (favorites and security) in this file instead of the one in the instructions?

And please someone give some step by step guidance on getting files on during the start-up process. The instructions in the 'unlocking' post just don't work for me.

By the way, I installed the UK upgrade before trying any of this nonsense.

Cheers, Hoss.

Thanks will try. Am still fighting it! The length of time it takes to try each time is taking up whole days and nothing else is getting done!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that only file mxip_oem_10.provxml needs edited after the UK upgrade. Have a look through previous posts for more info.

I have to alter both files as I cannot get the latest upgrade due to having windows ME! I do not understand copying the files ctrl + mouse etc. - do I move them before a take the phone off the cradle? If so it means that they change straight away? Sorry if this is not very explicit but I am trying very hard and am probably very trying. I have tried twice by moving this way and once by moving them ctrl + mouse after putting the phone on the cradle. Neither way works. I am now at a total loss. There must be something I am not doing??????

One other thing, when I put the phone back in the cradle, the active sync triggers after connecting and goes into set up mode which I duly cancel and it puts me on as a guest. I am now in smartphone 10! and have cancelled the synchronise applications.

OK virginia - see if this helps..

Highlight both (recently edited) files on the C drive by keeping the left Ctrl key pressed down whilst clicking each file in turn with the left mouse button.

When both files are highlighted together, press Ctrl-C (or use Edit-copy from menu bar). This will create a temporary copy of the files into PC memory.

Take the phone and give it a hard reset - erase IPSM.

Re-insert phone into cradle while its rebooting.

Click onto the Smartphone/Windows screen (which won't have any files or directories showing yet) and while the left Ctrl is permanently pressed down - intermittently click on V. You should start trying the Ctrl+V paste command just before the activesynch connection and continue trying until the prompt for overwrite (use return key to confirm YES for overwrites).

This should create a paste attempt at the earliest point possible.

You could also include the SIM lock if more bootup time is still needed.

Some people are finding it difficult to get the phone to accept the files but I'm not sure why? Maybe these phones have been configured slightly different ?

I haven't experienced any problems so far.

Just out of curiosity - how are you checking that the files have not been updated to the phone.

I have managed to copy over the mxip_oem10 before the main screen. I have found that when copying with the cntrl + mouse clicked on both files, then ctrl + c, that only the last file that was clicked is copied over with ctrl + v, so did not get a chance to copy over the mxipcold.

I sent the last message before I realised that you had already replied. I am checking whether the files have been accepted by looking on internet explorer and seeing if the 1. Orange NEW has been written in?

I've just tried a test and see what you mean be how quick the phone boots up now. There is something else to try if your keen...

When you have the 2 files in memory and you Ctrl+V to paste in the windows directory, it requires 2 prompts from the system to overwrite each file. Therefore after you press return to select yes to overwrite the first file, the system prompts again for confirmation to overwrite the second file. Toooooooo slow

If you keep the Ctrl key press down and then press V and then A (this gives a Ctrl V to paste 2 files + Ctrl A to overwrite all.

Ctrl + (V then A) could be the answer ?

Thanks I'll try anything. I thought it was just me but this phone is fast. I have left the mms card in and the sim lock is on and still it is too fast. Looks as if it's going to be another late night!

Still too fast on start up but will persevere - in the morning - I've had enough!
