I've seen this mentioned in a few places, but I don't think anyone has mentioned developing software for the LED at the top of the SPV?

Would it be possible to write some software so the LED changed colour if there was a text message/missed call ??

How about writing some software that disables it???

It just annoys the hell out of me... At night you just see that da*n flashin' light..

*FLASH*

*FLASH*

*FLASH*

*FLASH*

Really annoying isn't it??

Muude,

Couldnt agree more, I can live with the red flash when the battery is low, but the green incessant flashing is driving me insane

Possibly a post for wish list as opposed to software... seems a bit of a waste of cpu cycles (not to mention battery) to have an app running constantly just to stop the flashing

just thought... what about a reg hack?

Here's a simply "hack" solution.

Get a small piece of dark coloured paper. Cellotape the paper over the LED.

Problem solved.

Insulation tape works well too, one of my old PC's cases power LED could light up my room better than the SPV backlight. Bit of red insulation tape and its a plesant warm glow...

What's the point of a flashing LED? What does it tell you? Surely a constant coloured light wouldn't drain the battery too much?

Even if you turn the bl**dy thing upside down you can still see the reflection the LED flashing becuase the top of the case is slightly curved. Grr! I wouldn't mind so much if it was a useful light but the fact that it doesn't tell you anything just adds insult to injury! I know it tells you that the phone is still alive when the display is off, but pre update it used to keep flashing even when the phone had locked up and you had to pull the battery out to reset it!

This could be an insight into how HTC designed the SPV. Obviously the designers saw a T68, but didn't actually use one, and thought "ooh, it's got a flashing light, we'll have one of those" without realising it actually did something. Might also explain why it took them so long to realise a joystick would be far better than a direction pad.

OT: Troubling to see that SUKY still hasn't been able to scrape enough money together for a new keyboard :)

I'm colour blind so i can't see if it's Red or Green (why do manufactures all ways use those two colours together  )

Cant say i have trouble with it when i'm sleeping, but then again i sleep with my eyes closed :)

I have the same problem! Why dont manufacturers use green and blue or something?

Alas, precisely because for non-Daltonians, Orange and Green are opposite colours and very easy to tell apart, whereas Blue and Green are not... :)

hehe, seriously, this is a problem?

as you mentioned, it actually does something, it tells you the phone is alive (and still has battery power) when the backlight turns off

how can a small flashing light keep you awake?

i have an alarm clock with red letters, and flashing dots between the minutes and hours, doesnt stop me from sleeping (even tho the alarm clock hasnt been used as an alarm clock much, tend to use my mobi for the alarm, i really do thing you people are finding fault in something that isnt a problem, nit-picking is what i'd call it.

i thought the green light told you that you had a signal?

In my room i have; standby LED on tv, standby LED on DVD, standby LED and illuminated clock/display on both stereo and vcr, if i'm charging batteries that's another 2LEDs and two fourway mains adaptors both with power indicator lights, oh and the light on my electric toothbrush if thats charging.

Soo.... one extra LED being on makes SOD all difference to me! :)

And you could always let tourists visit when Blackpool finishes with their illuminations :)

Yep the green flashing light does tell you that you have a signal.

Try is by turning radio off. Then no flashing green light.

there's the solution then

just remember to turn it back on again in the morning :)

OMG!!! It has a use! I take it all back HTC/M$ - you gave the LED a function that equates to "stating the bleeding obvious". Fantastic. Now every few months when i'm in an area without a signal I won't bother looking at the signal meter; no, i'll stare at the LED for a few seconds and wait for it to flash.

Sorry, overdoing the sarcasm again :)

I remember having a led on my old Ericsson T66... It was just as annoying, so when I had to change the casing one day, I threw away the little plastic thing that kept flashing. When I put it back together, there was a small hole, and the LED was still flashing, although not nearly as bright.

hehe, seriously, the led tells you you have a signal even AFTER the screen has turned off, actually, i think that is usefull, i dont wanna turn the screen on every time, valuable waste of battery power , which is why i presume it blinks rather than staying on all the time (altho, i thought led's where supposedly low power)

also, a solidgreen light means its finished charging, but, in the name of coolness, surely they could have made it a bright blue colour or is that reserved for sony products :)

Guest flashfodder

You could always leave it on charge at night?

It's a solid green light then! Doesn't flash at all!! :)

Gotta agree with midnight... If they had to put a LED on it :) they should have made it BLUE!!
