Guest muude Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Am I the only one who's just loooooving my new batterypower :?: Haven't seen any posts on the subject, but does anyone know for how long it has actually been improved :?: I just know I'm lovin' every xtra hour I get out of it ;)
Guest ukmailserver Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I'm under the impression that you should get another day out of it. Does the backlight come on when the device is locked and you press a key? That was one of the fixes Barry
Guest Lojt Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Does the backlight come on when the device is locked and you press a key? That was one of the fixes Nope, that was fixed. It still turns on when you press the left soft key though.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 24 hours after charging, but with not much chance to play (only a little), my battery is still on three bars and all-explorer states 77% do I really need a bigger battery now? yes please ;)
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Am I the only one who's just loooooving my new batterypower :?: Aye, it's a massive improvement...and 4 bars on the signal-strength thingy almost all the time. Mental.
Guest xanadu Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I hope the battery has improved. After 12 hours, my SPV has 1 bar left on the meter or 25% in settings. Could someone post on here if they get a full 2 days battery with moderate use.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Could someone post on here if they get a full 2 days battery with moderate use. Easily - I've just had 1½ days with extensive mp3 player use. How did a software update increase battery-life so much? It can't be just the display-light not coming on all the time....
Guest muude Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 After the update I had it going from monday to wednesday... And in that time I played a whooole lot of gnuboy on it...
Guest dava Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Yup, 2 days no sweat - bit of gaming, loads of MP3 and full signal all the way. I'd have to agree that there must be more to this than just the backlight usage reduction; could it be that it runs apps for less time in the background? dava
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I still have to charge my phone every day  But then, I do play 3-4 hours of gameboy games and do some dev too ;)
Guest Hax Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Wouldn't surprise me if Orange weren't using the "sleep" function of the micro (assuming there is one!) and were running it flat out all the time ;) Adam
Guest PsychoDave Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Does this mean that overclocking might just be on the cards now? I hope so cos a 133mhz spv will definately blow away my sad 7650 owning mates......... Damn I wish I could remember how to program............
Guest tony_spv_2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Does this denmark update support full english text by anychance? ;):)
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Does this denmark update support full english text by anychance? ;):) *lol* in the circumstances, I'll consider myself lucky it supports text of any language and type
Guest aGeS Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 I write this with the risk of being called crazy, so plz don't call me that - I know this soundz a bit too strange! When the danish update was released I flashed my phone with it. After I found out that I couldn't do the SIM swap trick anymore I then restored the backup I made before the update to a SD card. Yesterday I then tried the unofficial non-danish update only to conclude that this one also closed the SIM swap hole. Once again I restored a backup from a SD card. After all this its now been around 24 hours since I charged the phone last time. This usually means that the phone is very low on battery and I was about to plug it into the charger but the I noticed: The phone is at 72% batterypower (according to ALL-explorer). This is after being turned on and used for 24 hours! If I had read this posting made by someone besides myself I would think "this is a lie - get a life bitch" but it is very true. If anybody got a explanation for this I would very much like to hear it as this goes beyond my imagination and straight into the twillight zone.. ;)
Guest fde Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 It is not just software and OS that impacts your battery life. Even much more important is the signal strength received by the radio transmitter from the next GSM antenna. If you travell, the phone permanently logs of a GSM cell and logs on in the next cell, thus draining your battery. If your far away from the next antenna, your provider (eg Orange) instructs your phone to increase sending power from maybe 500mW to 2W. Now this really drowns your battery, because the phone is periodically pinging to keep the connection alive. I did the OS update, which was available in Switzerland, about a month ago. I did not experience any real extended battery life. The biggest impact by far has the radio modul of the device. My recommendation: if you have almost no signal strength, switch of the radio by clicking briefly on the power button and selecting radio off. If you change your location, reactivate the radio by the same procedure.
Guest aGeS Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 The funny thing is that my phone has been lying on my table for 24hours before and it ate the battery several times.. well used the battery power.. Yesterday I was working home as I was waiting for FedEx to deliever my serial cable which they had promised - and failed in doing, so my phone haven't been travelling at all. I know that it can be at the same location and change GSM cell anyway but logic tells me that it would have done this the other times too then. Anyway I'm very happy about my new battery life and that I still am able to use the SIM swap trick. Would be nice to have phone updated but without the SIM swap or an operator unlocking trick I don't go there again.

I did notice 10% went pretty fast (betwen 15:00 and 18:00 today ) when playing motocross, I presume the 3d processing etc eats the battery for breakfast. ;)
