first of all, hello to everyone!

secondly, i recieved my omnia 2 days ago, and the battery goes down very rapidly -i have read this is common and i need a rom upgrade (think this is correct??) I always manually turn off my data connections and close all programs through task manager, so nothing is running.

I am new to windows mobile & and any type of PDA or PPC for that matter.

my question is, can somebody link me or attach an updated rom (& a how-to guide may help) that will help me with the battery life, i've only really been on the interenet (1/2 hours max) today and its hardly lasted untill the evening :s I guess i want something quite Lite with any unecessary files on the OEM rom removed...

i understand there are hundreads of different types of roms, but i just want a simple tested and stable one. as i understand it, it is also possible to remove my t-mobile lock thing, and advice on this also would be great!

at the moment my version reads:

PDA: i900XXHH7/BOHH5

PHONE: i900BOHH2

please reply in as simple a way as possible -thakyou!

if at all possible i would like to have it updated by sunday night as i have an 8hour flight on monday & dont want it to die on me

thankyou very much in advance -sorry for being such a novice

daze sxi.

Look, have a look in the Omnia Rom section: http://www.modaco.com/category/368/i9x0-om...rom-discussion/

I would suggest you to upgrade to official samsung roms first in order for you not to screw up your warranty with samsung.

The best one I've had in terms of battery life is the latest one from the Philippines: DXHK3.

Go here: http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp

choose Philippines and download the XP version. It's always better to use XP machines since that's the most safest way to do so.

You will probably get an error saying "Incorrect version" Follow this tutorial to fix that. http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-r...rsion-tutorial/

There are a lot of easier ways to do this but I believe that this is the most safest and best way for you since it's your first time flashing your omnia.

P.S: If you do not have access to an XP machine, take a look at vmware:

Rite, I shall try this in the morning on my bro's XP machine.

I'll go to the samsung support page and get the file for phillipines on XP....

then how do i get it onto the phone?? - i know everbody has probably done this hundreads of times, but could you please explain to me in the very simplest way possible a step-by-step how to do it. (a real idiots guide)

Lets assume this is successful 1st time - although i doubt it will be lol.

do i then have to go into fileExplorer and re-install the few .cab file applications i have at the moment? (g-alarm,nodata,wktask)

then, how do go abouts installing the rom that i think would be best, going by the votes in the 'Vote best ROM' thread - Taril's DXHL3 FINAL? Is it the exact same methods again, anything i need to do different?

Any other hints or cautions i should know about before attempting my first upgrade?

Thankyou all in advance - sorry about my complete noviceshnes -just want to get this sorted soon so i can learn my way around my omnia whilst on long flights, cheers

I've not flashed an Omnia myself but from other device flashing if you run the update on the PC it will guide you through from connecting the device to the pc etc.

1. connect your phone to the XP machine

2. Install the Samsung modem drivers if it's the first time you use the machine to flash

3. Make sure active sync says your omnia is connected

4. start the rom executable

5. turn off your phone

6. turn on your phone.

7. the updater should start flashing now.

8. No matter what happens, do not unplug your phone till the updater says Job done.

9. your set to go.

Things that might happen, but are not a big deal:

When the updater finishes updating the PDA part of your phone and moves on to the phone part, it will try to create a port and look ofr the modem drivers. Sometimes, the updater will say port creting failed before it has finished with the modem drivers in your pc.

In this case, flash again and the phone part will update as well.

If you have any question, just post here.

P.S: the latest activesync and samsung modem drivers can be found in the link I gave above. Make sure you choose XP as the OS.
