Guest tibor22 Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) I've just realised that I cannot send long SMS (longer than 160 characters) with my Omnia. The simple sms goes without problem. My ROM version: PDA: i900DXIA2/DZIA2 TEL: i900DXIA2 Is it a bug of this ROM? Is there a solution? Any help is appreciated! Guest tibor22 Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 I kept trying to resolve my problem of sending longer SMS than 160 char. So far no success, but I've got some interesting findings. If I try to send a cca. 200 characters long SMS to another PDA (my old Artemis) the Artemis turns alive (light on) but nothing more happens. If I send it to a normal GSM phone (my wife's Nokia) it receives the first part of the message and at the end merges this: "part of text missing". And both cases the Omnia shows the error message: "Message was not sent..." :) Any idea? What should I try? Another ROM? (It would be a pitty, because otherwise I like this ROM and flashing is always risky...) Thanks in advance!
Guest tibor22 Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 I am still waiting for some idea, suggestion or advice... Thanks in advane!
Guest Antonioffaxii Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I remember seeing something in my phones registry about this. I'll have a look around and get back to you.

Guest Antonioffaxii Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Hi, Sorry to come back with bad news but unfortunately I couldn't find anything to help. I did a quick google search, and this is just a broad problem. There is a registry file in the directory below that has the 160 ASCII noted in a file, but changing this for me at least did nothing to the amount shown in the messaging area. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS\TextShared

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS\TextShared Thanks, anyway, for trying to help. I simple couldn't belive that my Omnia is faulty (hardware error) because the long SMS feature has nothing to do with the hardware, I think. But, on the other hand, it's the second rom I'm using with the same error... So, I'am hopeless... :)
Guest tibor22 Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 If anyone knows which registry settings infuence the multi-part sms sending feature, please, let me know too! Or maybe the hidden service menu can modify something? I have no idea, what to do.
Guest finaldestiny Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Is it possible that your network does not support long sms? i.e have you been able to do this with other phones? I doubt that is the case but its still good to rule it out. But i remember seeing a way to force omnia to send only 1 sms, in an options menu somewhere. It forces it to stop when 1 message is complete though i.e u cannot enter more that 160 characters so i doubt thats the same thing you're having. Another possibility i can think of is the type of characters you are sending in you text. I know some characters interfere with (i.e shorten) the message limit not a very helpful post, i kno, but maybe it'll inspire an idea or a different search direction i dunno

With my SIM card I can send long SMS from another phone (or another PDA - I tried my old HTC Artemis and it works), even I could with the same Omnia before changing the rom. The original was: PDA: i900DTHJ5/DTHJ5, TEL: i900XXHJ1, the current is Secany's latest service rom: PDA: i900DXIA2/DZIA2, TEL: i900DXIA2. You can ask, why I don't put back the original. Because I don't have it. And downgrading to another rom avaible is more complicated than upgrading. I don't know it's possible at all... I'd like to have an expert's advise, someone who knows, which registry and/or hidden menu settings could influence the sms sending behaviour.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Does sound like a ROM issue if it was working before. I am not familier with the Omnia but would suggest you attempt to contact Secany with the issue, perhaps he can then look at the possible cause of this error.
Guest o0joe0o Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 i never encountered this problem.i was able to send a text with 300 chars.i have IA2 rom
Guest Antonioffaxii Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Yeah, I'd like to know why it can only do 160 chars if it was capable of 300 before... I really don't check this kind of thing but it would just be a useful thing to have. I might have a look around some more, and get back to ya.

Guest LGR Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I have the same problem when sending a message more than 160 characters long. I only noticed this problem since it was mentioned here I'm running DXHI3 PDA & Phone ROM. I also have SPB mobile shell installed. .

I only noticed this problem since it was mentioned here I'm running DXHI3 PDA & Phone ROM. I also have SPB mobile shell installed. . Yes, the funny thing is that we have another Omnia in the family, my son bought it around last October and it works without any problem, including long sms -- with a much older rom (I don't know the version, my son refused to have it re-flashed - maybe he was right!). I have a newer made Omnia, with a more fresh rom, and I cannot cope with this annoying problem... By the way, does anyone know the right password for the " [4] Internal " submenu of the admin.exe? There is a password in another thread (*#0807*) but it doesn't work on my Omnia.
Guest tibor22 Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Please, if somebody can enter into the Internal submenu of Admin.exe (I can't), check whether there are some settings influencing sms sending method and please, share with us if finds out something! Thanks!

Guest davey1980 Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-r...re-version-fix/ found that for roms... or try using a different programme to see if u can send over 160 if not then fone faulty i think.. heres 2 files that u can try. should let u send longer sms and if u can then maybe master reset or update to fix ur standard sms issues.?sms.zip
Guest tibor22 Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 davey1980, Thanks for the progs, I'll try them and come back to report the result.
Guest tibor22 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 Unfortunatelly no success. The sms progs provided by davey1980 return "error sending message" if I try to send longer than 160 characters.
Guest davey1980 Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 B) :( all i can think of is hard reset and if still not working contact ur network provider (if u got ur fone from them) and get them to send away for repair as i dont have a clue :(
Guest kav Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 B) :( all i can think of is hard reset and if still not working contact ur network provider (if u got ur fone from them) and get them to send away for repair as i dont have a clue :( i dont really think that contacting the network provider will do any help, because u installed a custom ROM and i am sure that this voids the warranty u have on the omnia. i would suggest get in touch with secany here or try to ask other people who installed this ROM from secany and if they have this issue as well and if they could resolve it. if not, then i think u have no other option than to change to DZIA5 or DXIA5.
Guest tibor22 Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 (...) i think u have no other option than to change to DZIA5 or DXIA5. It's the third or fourth ROM I'm using but the problem remains the same! Currently I'm using DXIA5 and still not able to to send sms, only up to 160 chars. B) But I still think it's not a hardware error since my first ROM used to send chained sms without any problem (it was i900DTHJ5/DTHJ5, TEL: i900XXHJ1). Somewhere 'deep inside' in the phone the SMS/EMS settings must have changed accidentally, and I don't know how to revert it back to normal state. That's what I think.
