Guest Lancez Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 works good..thanks for sharing....
Guest MrJoneswii Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 works good..thanks for sharing.... Is it smoother than flash enabled opera?
Guest Lancez Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) Is it smoother than flash enabled opera? not really, i prefer opera..... but it is nice to have something to play. :) thats why i said "good" instead "great"....but its just my 2 cents Edited February 2, 2009 by Lancez
Guest rigor.m Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 As I have never managed to make Opera work with flash on standard ROM this is good news... seems to pop a lot of the "disconnected" message but apart from that it works really well ...
Guest markwica Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 youtube videos on youtube site are muted. no sound, though sound is switched on in skyfire. Any idea?
Guest zagzag99 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Where did you get this version ? On their website they still claims no support for WVGA screens.
Guest jrbuji Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) it's working well thanks for sharing Edited February 2, 2009 by jrbuji
Guest Billou Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Hello Thanks but don't see the keyboard on deezer.com :)
Guest travelbug Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 it is no sound in youtube~ you pressed the mute button on the lower right hand by mistake easy to miss cause its semi transparent
Guest westy123 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 fantastic, much prefer skyfire to opera, thanks for sharing!
Guest buyukbang Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Thank you for the news, I was waiting for this version, but this really disappointed me :) GPRS reconnection bug is very annoying. Additionally rendering speed is very very bad. After opening a heavy page (with lots of images and other stuff..), scrolling through the page (left, right,up and down) is really slow. It becomes gray, then slowly images shown with low resolution then it switches normal definition finally. When I browse the same page with opera (latest build), page is opened very fast, scrolling is fast, too. Unfortunately we should wait for final version...

I can't seem to be able to launch the program. It keeps saying "Skyfire cannot connect to the server at this time." and the only options are Try Again and Exit. What am I doing wrong? Ok, I disconnected wifi and now skyfire just cycles through "check flight mode" and "acquiring data connection." Edited February 2, 2009 by MacAlert

I had it working this morning, now I'm getting the same cannot connect message as you, either on wifi or gprs.
Guest zagzag99 Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I had it working this morning, now I'm getting the same cannot connect message as you, either on wifi or gprs. Skyfire is based on a proxy server. All the sites you browse pass through their servers and being resized and streamed to your phone browser (As oppose to IE,Opera,Iris,Fennec,NetFront... which are normal browsers that access sites directly). So they can control who is accessing and when. Also it could be their server is overloaded and they ban requests from outside US/Canada/UK - their current supported locations. It could also be that they'd require registration at a point in time.
Guest TheDrizzle Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Yea I get "Skyfire cannot connect to the server at this time". I had skyfire on my old Moto Q and it was great. Opera on the Omnia is better then skyfire was on that phone, but I'm not sure how skyfire will be on this bigger touchscreen device. I am curious to use it. I'll try again later. Good find btw!

Guest scoiattolo Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) Skyfire is based on a proxy server. All the sites you browse pass through their servers and being resized and streamed to your phone browser Also Opera Mini works in this way :) So they can control who is accessing and when. Also it could be their server is overloaded and they ban requests from outside US/Canada/UK - their current supported locations. It could also be that they'd require registration at a point in time. They say they just upgraded their servers (a few days ago) to cope with the increased access. But maybe it's not working as planned. Registering solves (partially) the problem: you are given a sort of priority in accessing. But the problem of overloading still remains at certain times (especially US peak time), even accessing from one of the Country (UK) they officially support. I add the release notes of this alpha version: This release is basically the latest Skyfire 0.8.5 with the following additions (more to come over time): Text resizing: This is a new approach to improve the readability of larger sections of text on a web page.. Our current (e.g. 0.8.*) approach is ‘Smartfit’, which reflows text into a narrower column. When it worked it was ok, unfortunately it broke a lot of web sites. This new approach simply increases the text size enough that you should be able to read it more comfortably once zoomed into the text area (e.g. into the column width). You can switch this feature on/off by using the ‘Smartfit’ toggle. This allows you to see the difference as well. This is our first iteration. We are looking forward to hear your opinion. WVGA and W(Q)VGA support: Finally. Now we support both WVGA (800x480) and WQVGA (400x240) devices on both portrait and landscape format. We have tested in-house the Sony Ericsson Experia X1 (WVGA) and the Samsung Omnia (WQVGA). Please see the list of known issues for these phones. It’s early days so please help us report issues. EXPERIMENTAL: Flash/Silverlight handling: Experimental is what it says: this is something that we played around with and we wanted to get your opinion. When the cursor (using the d-pad) is placed over a plug-in element (Flash or Silverlight) the cursor will change to a hand a red dot. This provides two functionalities: 1. Each click will move the cursor half the distance for better preciseness. 2. You can enter “Direct Edit mode” (click and hold): This will now send all keystrokes directly to the embedded app. This opens up the possibility to enter text into Flash or Silverlight. Play with it and tell us what you think. Known issues for this release: - Samsung Omnia sometimes disconnects after ~15-20sec when carrier data service is used (WiFi seems to work) - Sony Ericsson Experia X1: soft menus are incorrectly mapped in portrait mode. This can be corrected in the Windows under settings. Warning: WHEN YOU SEE AN UPGRADE FLAG IN SKYFIRE PLEASE IGNORE IT. This will unfortunately upgrade you to the production version and overwrite the Alpha release. If this happens, then uninstall Skyfire and reinstall the Alpha version. Sorry for this, will be addressed soon. Your existing username and password in 0.8.5 beta (e.g. production) continues to work for this Alpha. Thus your bookmarks and history will be preserved. Guest phantomguy1 Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 where was this version found exactly? are you on the beta team?... and did you rename the file?
Guest jp514 Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 I guess UK users will not get 0.90 for a while. The same way they did not open up the beta to the UK for ages.
