Buying an Omnia not made for Australia

Hi,

I am interested in the Omnia 16GB phone but this has not been released in Australia as yet. There are many Omnia 16GB phones being sold over the net in Australia but these are imported phones. How safe and reliable is it to buy a phone that is not specifically made for your country? I take it that for warranty it would have to go back to its country of origin for repair which would not be a cheap exercise and could take a long time.

How have other Aussies who have bought imported Omnia's found the phone? Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Ben :)

I bought mine from Malaysia while I was over there on holiday, and it works fine. I haven't had any problems with anything. Except working Google Maps with GPS.

Hi Antonioffaxii, thanks for taking the time to respond. I guess it is no different than taking an AU phone on travels overseas. I have never had a problem with my phone when in Europe and Asia.

Hope you get Google Maps working with GPS soon!!!!!

Cheers

I'm in QLD - bought mine from eBay from malaysia I think. Works great. Because it's WinMo everything is customisable. I'm on 3 and just googled the internet/mms settings, copied them in and it all works great.

As for warranty... I'm not too sure, but I THINK you just go through the national Samsung centre, as long as you show receipt of purchase from an official reseller. I'm mainly hoping that it just won't die any time in the year lol.
