MMS Picture Resize Problem (VZW i910)

Hello all, I recently got an Omnia i910 from VZW and so far it's a fun phone but I'm having a problem receiving picture messages in their original sizes. Upon receiving a picture it resizes it down to 240x180 resolution. I used to receive pictures on my LG Dare with no problems (which was my phone prior to the Omnia). I've tested receiving pictures from my friend and by sending via emailed pics to myself @vzwpix.com address and it's getting downsized. I can however SEND pictures I've taken with the phone and it resizes the picture to 640x480 which is fine.

I've tried searching this forum, Samsung-Omnia, HoFo and XDA but perhaps my search words aren't precise enough or I just blow at terminology lol. Anyhow.....help!

Thanks in advance. :)

Just an update so far on this problem which I'm posting into different forums in hopes of resolution:

Just got off the phone with VZW tech support and they told me that the problem of receiving resized (small) pictures is "a device limitation and not an issue" which doesn't sound right. I asked if it was possible to have my problem elevated to another tier of tech support but apparently there isn't any.

I've read on some T-Mobile forums where people had similar issues with their phones (not the Omnia, just referring to the problem itself) and were able to make changes to the phone itself and was hoping there was a solution like that available for me.

Curious though, is anyone else having the problem of receiving picture messages greatly reduced in size?

I too have had this problem...there is a fix for it found here However...it messes up video MMS.

Basically with the fix...it allows you to receive MMS PICTURES at a larger size (not sure if its full res anyhow, but its better than a &#@'in thumbnail!!!)...but when you try to receive a MMS VIDEO it seems like you only get the audio and one frame of the video over and over. Also, i have noticed that when you use the MMS feature with this "fix" it doesn't register under the mobile to mobile messaging...I have unlimited messaging so its not an issue...but it would be great if someone could figure out how to fix all these issues.

I called verizon telling them my issue and they too said its a non issue...but i think they are feeding us a load of #$%* because my old non pda phone could send full res pics all day!!

I read somewhere that its a problem with the verizon network not recognising the I910 and defaulting to a small size.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the response! Yeah it's irritating that my dumb LG Dare could do it all without a hitch but this spiffy new phone won't grrr. That thing about Verizon network not recognizing the i910 is something similar to the issue the T-Mobile people were having with some other phone in the past so it's possible. I'm going to look into that fix of yours in a minute but I'd rather implement something that won't hinder MMS videos too (if that's possible).

Well after about 2 weeks of digging through various forums and Googling my a$$ off I finally fixed the tiny small stinking MMS picture size problem lol. First thing's first the two main links you'll need are:

This is the thread which contains the Arcsoft MMS cab needed to really get things rolling.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404345

This is dcd's site with updated carrier cabs (which has the VZW carrier listed)

http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=carriers%2F

Direct links to the cabs in case admins would like to attach the files to this forum for archival purposes:

GC VZW Arcsoft MMS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=116418&d=1222460364

dcd Verizon Wireless Carrier Cab: http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=carriers%2F&download=dcd+Verizon+Carrier+20081031.cab

Instructions are fairly simple, install the 2 cab files, soft reset phone. Open up Messaging and you'll see a new category/folder called SMS/MMS (your original MMS folders are still there). Click on the SMS/MMS folder then on your Menu go to MMS Options > Servers Tab. Click on Verizon Wireless then scroll down to "Connect via:" and choose Verizon Wireless and if needed change "Send limit" to 399k. Hit Done and close it up then open up your favorite registry editor and navigate to:

HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader

Once there you need to enter your 10 digit cell phone number in the Value data field for the Z-VzW-MDN key. Save and close and it's probably not needed but I did a soft reset anyway.

Enjoy receiving normal sized MMS picture messages once again.

There are few bugs I'll be looking into that I've come across so far:

- To send an MMS you have to create it via the SMS/MMS messaging area OR click and hold a file and select Send via MMS. Some creature comforts like sending MMS from your Camera program or Media Album. What happens here is that the MMS sent via these programs gets created in the "MMS" folder rather than the new "SMS/MMS" folder.

- When receiving a video MMS (3gp is only one tested so far) it won't play once downloaded and opened within the MMS. You have to save the file to your phone and play it via your own video player (I was using Touch Player)

- As mentioned before you're stuck with the original MMS folder for your Messaging "inboxes" but this hasn't really been an issue except when trying to send MMS via other programs so far.
