Guest Antonioffaxii Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 OK I've had a quick search around the internet and haven't really found an App Store or similar program, for Window Mobile. This may just be my lack of finding ability, or is there a problem with creating one? I'm going to go ahead and assume it is possible. I'm thinking along the lines of maybe a website sort of which a particular program connects to? So I guess I am asking: 1. Is there a program similar, or exactly like this; 2. If not, would it be possible to create one?

Guest Turborepu Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 there are soo many software sites for ppc phones you just go to them directly. If browsing on the phone see if they have a .cab download option, if not you will have to download the file from your pc, and run the exe file from it through activesync. many of the sites are not freeware but there are a few. I never used the app store but i like the idea of playing around with my files however i want instead. i'm still not aware of a program that is dedicated to acquiring new software.
Guest TheDrizzle Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) There is handango, they have the "handango in hand" app which will add an interface to your phone to download stuff. Mostly overpriced though. You can get it here: http://store.handango.com/client/Home.jsp?...b=4&devId=0 If you are a verizon customer there is the "VzwAppZone" which is pretty much the same. Not much there and mostly overpriced. I uninstalled it from my i910. maybe it will get better in the future. I'm curious if we will see professional apps from Vzw or handango that take advantage of the accelormoater. We will see. Edited February 3, 2009 by TheDrizzle

Guest Antonioffaxii Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Thanks guys for your response, I'll probably just stick to downloading from my PC for now. But still I'll keep an eye out. Thanks again!

Its a good idea and when ever I use an I phone, I am impressed by this feature. (I just don't like how it is the ONLY way to get programs onto their phones). In terms of a window version there are a couple of opions developing - but I don't expect they will gather much of a following given that Microsoft is going to release its own app store in a few months time (skybox or skystore or something sky-ish). The best of the rest at the moment are: Gecko http://getgecko.org/ Freeware http://www.basic4ppc.com/forum/open-source...net-client.html JAK Portal http://www.winmoportal.com/ccount/click.php?id=1 In terms of having an immediate heavily populated set of programs, the freeware program looks to be the best as it draws the programs off the Freewarepocketpc site (there are a lot of programs there). Cheers, Michael

Who needs app stores when we have access to MoDaCo and xda. These are the places where the developers hang out and grace us with all of the best innovations out there. I'll leave the AppStores for my wife and her blackberry and iphone friends.
Guest Michael122w Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I am not quite sure why it is sensible to equate "Tech Savvy" with being able to browse a website and downloading files. I can't quite see the advanced computing skills required to be able to do this! Seems to be just a long winded way of searching through the thousands of apps available in a centralised repository. It is also possible to be part of the development community (helping with beta testing or idea development) and having a application store. I don't see why you woudn't want both. It should be about convienience - I have my emails, text messages and phone calls pulled straight to my phone. Perhaps the "no app store movement" would find it more satisfying to have all of these stored on different web site, so that you can enjoy searching the web for any new text message? Anyway, I am really looking forward to the microsoft app store. I think it will be a huge step forward.
