Sound Settings not working!

I have spent months getting my phone just how I like it. I was just performing some minor setting tweaks and found that the sound settings (basic MS rom app) do not work. I can open the app and I seem to be able to change the settings but when I save them, they are not stored and it is not possible to close the app without forcing it through Memmaid or some such similar facility. Could it be that the ROM app is clashing with some other app or is it likely that the ROM has an issue? I have soft and hard re-set but the problem persists. Would it be possible to restore a specific file from an old backup (using Sprite) to fix this?
