Ok, first off, nice forum you guys got here, Modaco moderators and admins.

I am right about to purchase a the CDMA (Im guessing that means American or i1910 version) Omnia. I just have some questions that I would be happy if someone could answer them or give suggestions to the questions that dont really have one answer.

1. What is the latest firmware for the Samsung Omnia (only my version)? I hear DXHHI and G3 etc. which one is for me? And will it give more battery life, better touch feedback, etc.? Also where do i get it and how to install.

2. Can you link Gmail to the Omnia? If so, how?

3. What are best apps you can download for the Omnia?

4. Can you play youtube videos on the Omnia, if so, how?

5. Can you play full length movies on the Omnia?

6. Are there any media players I should download, or does it come with a good one already?

7. What are the best games :)?

8. What are like the first things you should do to your Omnia once you get it (nothing fancy, something easy to do that makes the phone simply better)

9. Is the video quality decent on the Omnia, can it match the iPhone's?

10. How does the phone match up as a multimedia device?

11. Top 5 or 10 Windows Mobile apps (if not stated in question 3)?

12. What the heck is SPB Mobile shell, and how do I use it. I know it puts on a different interface, but does it slow the Omnia down, etc.

13. How do you make everything run on wifi, instead of connecting to the provided network, since that is a waste of money.

14. And finally, is the stupid data plan required?

Like honeslty, if any of you can answer these (or most of them) questions in one post, I will be like eternally grateful to you, I will like give you a cookie if i knew you :D. I know this is my first post, but i am a tech noob, and i am just getting used to windows mobile. A Thousand Thanks to whoever answers.

Wow that is a lot of ??? Great questions, alot of which are answered throughout this forum. Surf around and get familiar. First of all if you are new to Winmo and the Omnia, I think everyone would agree that you should use the omnia the way it is for awhile and start slowly with upgrades etc. I answered some of the most important questions for you here though.

1. it is not currently advised to load the i900 ROMs (firmware) on the i910 as the CDMA version has not been shown to tolerate the customized ROMs yet. I believe there is work being done on custom ROMs for the i910 (don't know progress)

2. Gmail works great on the Omnia! I actually forward all of my email from work server and all my POP to Gmail. It will not "push" to the phone from Gmail, but it has the ability to auto send/receive from all your Gmail acct anywhere from every 5 minutes to 1 x / day. I get about 40 emails daily on my phone obtained every 30 minutes (always have more than 80% battery left at end of day). To set up Gmail, just go to your Omnias email/menu/tools/new account and follow step for Gmail. Some POP3 like hotmail etc I don't think r supported.

3 & 7. Apps and Games. Too many to count and depend entirely on what you want/use the omnia for. New games are being developed all the time to fit the screen resolution that is unique to the omnia. Check out the games thread in this forum.

4. Youtube. Yes there are some apps for viewing that don't require you to go to the website. Search the forum.

5 & 6. Yes movies play. Look great due to the onboard Divx encoding that is included with the software. Comes with wmp and a samsung music player which is pretty good. Another music player that is like an iphone is S2P.

12. Spb mobile shell is a user interface that lets you customize the look and use of your winmo phone. I use it and the custom skins from imarche. This is VERY omnia friendly.

13. I think you can set up WiFi as default. Search youtube, some one did a video instruction on it I think.

14. And yes, if you want the phone to collect your email for you and you want to have the broadband services when you are not near a wifi you will need to data plan. I used to use verizons $44/mo plan and the wirelesssync. DON'T! get the $29 plan and forward all of your mail to a Gmail acct. It is cheaper and works much better.

Hope this helps.
