Guest Jumba Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Hi Recently my Garmin GPS Maps have gone all weird. I'm only seeing the major roads, all the suburbs and smaller streets are gone. I tried re-installing from the Garmin CD but still the same problem. Could I have messed something up in the registry? Anyone else had this same problem? I don't really want to risk it but I was thinking of deleting the Garmin folder on the Memory Card then re-installing again. So far I just re-installed over the old installation. This is really frustrating. :)
Guest bobobird Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Are you using only the base map ? or have a country map that used to work as well ?
Guest Jumba Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I believe the only map I have installed is the South Africa one. When I re-installed it looked like it copied this map over again. But still the same problem. :)
Guest Jumba Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Just checked, it seems I only have the basemap installed (around 20MB). Should I have other maps installed, such as the City Navigator map? I was never presented with that option.
Guest bobobird Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) You will need to get the SA map from Garmin. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=253&pID=6818 Edited February 6, 2009 by bobobird
Guest Voltorr Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I'm also from SA and got all the maps on the SD card with a back up cd incase i formatted it. Samsung has a deal with Garmin in South Africa and if you bought in here you shouldn't have to buy any extra maps. This may sounds stupid but have you tried zooming in on the maps? or maybe changing your avoidance rules (could work)

I believe I may have skipped one step though. According to the instructions you first re-install to the memory card in USB mode, then switch to ActiveSync before unlocking the maps. I think my mistake was to disconnect from the PC before going through the activation process. As a result, it looks like only the base map has been unlocked on my Omnia. Another give-away is that it has the word 'overzoom' displayed over it and it won't accept any location searches. I'll try re-doing the install when I get home later, hopefully that will solve the problem. I also notice that I have only one licence file in my Garmin folder, gmapsupp.unl - I believe there should be at least two if the detail maps have been installed properly. Thanks though, hopefully I'll get this working soon. :)
Guest Jumba Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Well so much for that idea. I did the re-install the way I mentioned above but still no luck. After entering my code from the yellow card the Garmin software seems to do all the right stuff - waits for an activation SMS to arrive then tells me the app is unlocked and ready to use. But it appears that unlock code only activates the base map. I don't understand this, since the detail map was activated the first time I used it. I'm installing it to the same memory card. I am using a custom firmware though - could that have something to do with it? If all else fails I guess I'll have to contact Samsung/Garmin. :)
