Guest Carlos0371 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) Don't suppose there's any chance of this being stickied? I think it's a much sought after topic in here..... ***VODAFONE FIX - To revert back to OFFICIAL Vodafone branded ROM*** Here's what worked for me, and I am so chuffed I'm going to go and post it everywhere I can think of!!! lol **NOTES: My handset was bought in the UK from Phones4U, Unlocked but on a Vodafone contract, so with their Branding. I updated to OFFICIAL ACHJ2 when it was released, and I have tried a variety of other ROMs since doing that. As I am having hardware problems with my phone (was having them before flashing the ROM) I have to return it to Phones4U for repair. This means I have to have the original Vodafone ROM back on it. I do not guarantee that this will work for you, but if you find you are in the same situation, I see no reason why it won't. Please note I will NOT be held responsible for any damage to anyone's phone through following these instructions, and if you are unsure on how to flash a ROM, please do not even consider doing this until you are. As always, Please also remember the following: !!!USE CUSTOM ROMS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! !!!CUSTOM ROMS CAN HARM YOUR DEVICE!!! !!!CUSTOM ROMS WILL INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY!!! Now, here's what I did (No registry or hex editing required): 1) Flash to DXHJ1 HERE 2) On completion of update, ensure you Soft Reset 3) Flash to Official T-Mobile Rom BOHH5 HERE 4) On completion of update, ensure you Soft Reset 5) Go to phone keypad and type: *#638738# - This brings up the "Configuration" menu because the *#1546792*# option doesn't do anything on branded ROMs - Change Country to "United Kingdom" - PHONE WILL HARD RESET. 6) Run Samsung Official ACHJ2 Updater for Vodafone ROM **NOTE** For some reason, my updater had "****EMERGENCY RESCUE MODE**** (or something like that anyway) - I selected this, left the other 2 boxes blank, and Hey Presto, the update worked!! 7) On completion of update, ensure you Soft Reset, and Voila! Vodafone Branded Omnia ready to be shipped back to Vodafone for repair!!!! I Now have an Omnia showing: PDA: i900XXHJ6/ACHJ2 PHONE: i900BUHJ1 If someone has a Vodafone Omnia on ACHJ2 ROM, I would be grateful if they can confirm these numbers to be correct. Many, MANY Thanks go out to everyone on here who has posted details on flashing, how to change registry settings, hex editing etc., if it wasn't for me having so much information to help me, I'd never have done this, and £400 for a new phone? I think not. Thanks to everyone for making this board such a great source of information, and in particular to those of you who spend so much time coding, cooking and releasing ROMs for us all to get the best out of this fantastic little (BIG) phone. Hope this helps someone save about 2 weeks trying to solve this problem. Cheers, Carlos. Edited February 5, 2009 by Carlos0371

Guest Carlos0371 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Carlos, thanks for posting this, hoping to get A UK Vodafone Omnia soon, but would like to try custom ROM's, This is something i have thought about as well, A couple of question's Why do you have to flash to a T-Mobile ROM? and What hardware prob are you having? :) Why T-Mobile?: Not sure, only thing I can think is because the T-Mobile is an "Official" unofficial rom, it works, then changing the Country from "Default" (in the T-Mobile preconfig) to United Kingdom (I think) fools the Vodafone one into thinking you have an "Official" but outdated rom. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. To be honest, it was more trial and error, then I thought about it a bit, and there it was. Hardware problems: Camera Button won't function all the time, Switch off, won't switch on again (have to press "Reset"), Leave switched off, battery drains in about half hour, Alarm doesn't repeat the ringtone despite having tick in "Repeat", Dictionary doesn't remember words when added (only sometimes), "Capitalise first letter" not working. All minor issues, but if I want to sell it later..... To be fair, I did drop it in a toilet!!! (Shhhhh!!) Carlos.

Ahh, water damage, thought it maybe a manufacturing fault, some Omnia's have internals overheat/mainboard faults, Be carefull when returning, that water marks are not spotted, Why is T-Mobile a "Official" unofficial ROM, Do not understand? By "Official" unofficial ROM, do you mean its not Official Samsung ROM, But a official mobile network ROM? Would like to know who writes Vodafones ROM's for them, not many over at VF's e-forum seems very impressed with them, You would think VF would get Samsung to write them, who should get it right first time? RH
Guest Carlos0371 Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Why is T-Mobile a "Official" unofficial ROM, Do not understand? By "Official" unofficial ROM, do you mean its not Official Samsung ROM, But a official mobile network ROM? I mean I believe it's an official T-mobile Rom, but not sure whether it can be downloaded officially, so therefore it may be a Rom dump from someone else who had a T-mobile branded handset originally. Basically, it's shown as "Official" on Paul's list, but I don't now the source, so cannot confirm it's legitimacy (or "Official"ness). Regarding your other points, the VF firmware worked fine on my Omnia, but I wanted to free up more memory, which is the primary reason for me flashing. Removing the VF branding wasn't overly important to me. Carlos.

You said it was unlocked, Just wondering if p4U will repair it them selves or send it back to VF, If they repair it themselves, might not matter if it has a VF ROM? Let us know how you get on with the repair?

It's gone now, and they said "Within 14 days" - I pointeds out that last time they told me that (N95) it was over 4 weeks (I did get £40.00 compensation from them though) but they say they now have new repairers, and turnaround is much quicker. We'll see....... (That's of course as long as they don't work out it was dropped in a loo of course!!) Carlos.
