Guest buyukbang Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Hi all, After using my Omnia as USB drive with USB Mass Storage Setting is set to My Storage and unpluggin the cable, after 1-2 münute my Omnia starts to behave strangely then it freezes completely. I'm on QBUS DXIA2-QB05 with Manilla 2D intalled via CAB, but I do not think it's related with my firmware. Because I had my this problem in Passoa DXHK1/M2D04, too. Do you have this problem ? Please respond, because this problem is making me crazy :)
Guest buyukbang Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Just tried to terminate all third party running processes before usb connection. But this didn't help me. When unplugging after a big sized (1 gb) file transfer, Omnia behaves very unstable and finally freezes in 30 seconds :) Can anybody share his/her experience ?

I had the same problem before, it doesnt happen all the time but it has happened to me alot of times. Once it got so strange that i changed it to ActiveSync while plugged in and it kinda ruined the activesync program.... i had to uninstall it and install it again...very frustrating i really dnt know what causes it to freez after using mass storage option. :)
Guest Stevenh Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 This is most likely because you have programs or services running that are installed into My Storage. When you activate mass storage, the storage area you try to access is un-mounted and becomes unavailable to WM...
Guest dwallersv Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I had the same problem on my 910, which is running stock firmware. The problem was the "Advanced" mode in Settings->Connections->USB to PC Make sure it's NOT checked. When it was for me, I had exactly the same problems you're having. Cleared it, rebooted, and Mass Storage mode works perfectly and reliably for me.
Guest buyukbang Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 This was the first thing that I suspected, so I killed all apps and hidden processes runnning in My Storage, and additianally a few suspected processes running in the phone memory. Then I retested this scenario but Omnia froze again :) This is most likely because you have programs or services running that are installed into My Storage. When you activate mass storage, the storage area you try to access is un-mounted and becomes unavailable to WM...
Guest buyukbang Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I just tested as you written, cleared the option then rebooted. I copied 1 Gb sized file to My Storage but freezed after unplugging :) Are you able to copy files with this size without freezing after unplugging the cable ? Guest dwallersv Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 I just tested as you written, cleared the option then rebooted. I copied 1 Gb sized file to My Storage but freezed after unplugging :) Are you able to copy files with this size without freezing after unplugging the cable ? Yup. Can copy large or small files, multiple files, whatever, without problem. On the PC I always click the little icon in the storage tray for removable devices and select "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage device <drive letter>" and wait for the message telling me it's safe to disconnect before detaching... Do you do that? I'm doubtful that's the problem, as I had exactly the same symptoms you do, and it was fixed by clearing the "Advanced" checkbox, but you still should always safely disconnect so that both OS's can clean up buffers and take down the connection in a clean way.
Guest usermmg Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 might be a hassle, but i found that on my device when i unchecked "touchflo" from my list of Today items (disabling M2D) my omnia stopped freezing when used as mass storage. might help to try
Guest buyukbang Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Hey friends, I found the guilty. It's WkTasks for my case. After disabling it from startup and a reset, everything works perfectly for usb mass storage mode. As I written above, I killed this task after starting, but this didn't helped me. It shoudn't start up. Thank you all. I thing this topic is a good mini resource for usb mass storage mode problems...

I had the same problem with WkTasks even after i changed the firmware (DXHG3 with DXHK3 - last one) and Vista on my laptop. This application freezed my Omnia when i use USB Mass Storage mode.
