Garmin Mobile XT on Omnia - signal strength problem?

I tried my GPS navigation with Garmin Mobile XT 5 when I was on/inside a bus (with 3 bar out of 5 signal strength), and it seems that the car on the map (inside Garmin) did not 'run' smoothly - feel lag .. so that position of the car (in the software) is few seconds behind the actual location of me/bus. Is it supposed to be like this?? If so, its kinda useless for navigation ..

Please advice. Thank you :)

There are two issues here. The first is getting a proper lock. You can read some of the other threads about XTRA info an getting a GPS lock. Generally the first time you get a lock with no XTRA into can be slow and until you get a 5 bar lock your acuracy can be very bad. Also the XTRA data can get corrupted and this can result in a 3 bar lock but with the GPS position varying wildly. I had this the other day and I have a track info showing I was doing 16000km/h in my car!

Secondly as the GPS does not redraw the screen continuously but every half a second or so the picture is always behind where you are but you get used to matching the screen with what you see. It is the same on my parents Garmin Nuvi unit. Generally the unit will tell you to turn just before you get to the turn about 50m before. You just need to check that there is not another turn you could turn down in th normally fine.e area of uncertainty. But on the whole it is
