Guest iygnim Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 is this normal? from what i know, a hard reset should only wipe your main memory, but leave your "my storage" and storage card intact. well my storage card was left untouched, but my storage was completely wiped, and i've lost my backup files and pics and all. is there any way to retrieve my storage?
Guest aleis Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 you have to uncheck where it says storage card if i remember correctly.

Guest dwallersv Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 sorry but could you guide me with more details? i'm afraid i'm still very new to this.. He's referring to using the hard reset control panel app. Is that how you did it? In that app there is an option to wipe (essentially reformat) the internal MMC storage. There are several ways to hard reset the phone, the "software" approach described above being only one. I don't trust it, for the very reasons you've experienced. I always hard-reset via holding down the two phone buttons during the Samsung splashscreen. No options for anything, and never wipes internal mass storage. All that said, there are various apps available for recovering files after a quick format (which is likely what was done). Can't point you to one, but some time on Google will likely turn something up. That would be my next move if I were you. The less you've disturbed that internal MMC "card" at this point the better. Good luck!

I sure hope it would. Suppose you lose your phone, and someone else finds it but it's password protected. A hard reset SHOULD wipe out all of your data so they won't have access to it. You should keep a backup of any important data that's on a portable storage device anyways. Edited February 7, 2009 by Chugworth

Just to answer my own question from earlier: I tried doing a hard reset today using the 2-button method (with encryption ON). After it started back, I could see all of the file names in the storage folder, but none of the files could be read because the data was encrypted. This makes me happy. :)
Guest js3339 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 the hard reset was triggered when i changed the omnia's preconfiguration. I've also noticed that method formats 'My Storage' too. any idea what kind of storage "my storage" is? the programmes i found on google only work for my laptop's hard disk Well, if you find a program that can handle removable media that should do it. Be sure your connection mode is set to Mass Storage, not ActiveSync.
