Guest FoneFreak786 Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I have had the omnia for many months now, I find the rom upgrades boring (maybe im doing something wrong or not using it for the right reasons). I find the gps and tom tom etc to work great. Can someone please enlighten me what they are using their omnia for and how they feel after months of use etc
Guest bpivk Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 (edited) Can someone please enlighten me what they are using their omnia for and how they feel after months of use etc Well I use it for calling people, sending SMS and a little browsing if I don't have my laptop with me. :D But I don't think that it's the answer you're looking for so I'll add that I also use it for testing apps and games so i have a lot of them installed (about 2Gb). I'll use it to watch movies (again if no laptop is present) but I don't have the time to do everything yet so I haven't uploaded any movies. And I still have to sort the fully working games from qvga games so that I'll know when to use the screen switching app (WVGAFIX). If you need any more ideas just ask. :) Edited February 7, 2009 by bpivk

Can someone please enlighten me what they are using their omnia for and how they feel after months of use etc well Freak i had mine since Sep 08, 5 months or so ago. Not bored in the slightest. I had phones since i was 16, i am now 30. This is the only phone to of EVER kept my attention..It is so customisable, there are things i cant even try as i dont know how (yet). The world is your oyster, think out of the box. Just to add, i have had all the greats of the past (no WinMo's tho), so i know what good and bad phones are. I will never get a normal phone again, these devices are so good. If you are bored, what phone did you have before?? Must of been good??

And in response to the thread TITLE which the OP was not about, those who have sold it wont be sticking around this forum to tell us why they did !!!

Can someone please enlighten me what they are using their omnia for and how they feel after months of use etc I'd like to know how you got your TomTom working.. I can't get past a Memory Access Violation Screen.. with the updated 6.75 version of TomTom, and where have you got it installed to .. your "MyStorage" or "MicroSD storage card" ? Sorry If I got off on a rabbit trail on this question.. I use my Omnia just like I used my dell axim x51v to run apps and access the net, as my navigator if tomtom can work, as movie player to watch movies streamed from my home pc, as music player on long trips, and with the unlimited data plan package for 30 dollars, I can use it in my line of work.. when i work on computers in customers homes that has dial up, i plug my omnia in and use the broadband functionality.. and best of all I also have the phone capabilities all on one device, without carring two devices... PDA and Cell Phone... Edited February 8, 2009 by swade8

Guest Diggedy Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 I had an iphone, if you want something which looks good, does a lot with relative simplicity then its the phone for you. But i got bored of it immediately and the camera was enough to push me over the edge. Ive got the omnia now and i love it. sometimes its a pain to setup and to work all the fiddly winmo menus, but theres loads of things im learning to do with it. plus im running igo8/garmin navigator and this is real handy, the iphone cant do this either :)
Guest efjay Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 The Omnia is definitely one of the best WM devices I have used hardware wise, but as for the stock software it is truly abysmal and its only because of the hackers and cooks I still have mine. We still dont have BT voice dialling, camera doesnt save picture settings and if I was still using the stock rom I would have under 59MB of storage space from the supposed 256 thats on board. The hardware rocks, the software doesnt. Thanks to people like shokka9, sztupy and others for making this device usable.
Guest 1Mack Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I would never sell my Omnia. I had it stolen 4 weeks ago :) :) . I have been in the dumps over this. I took it home to BKK and got to use all the apps and everything worked great on the network there. I was really impressed. I can't use some of the feature in Afghanistan :D . So when I got back to work and got my rig snatched I was to say the least disappointed. But I have a friend here who wants my touch pro and he has ordered a Nior Black Omnia for me and we will trade when the Omnia arrives. But this waiting sucks. And watching all the new ROMS and tweaks come in and not being able to try them is even worse. This is the best Winmo device I have owned. A very good balance.
Guest Chugworth Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 I've had my Omnia since about mid-December. My opinion is that the device itself is really great, but it's hampered by the fact that it lacks a capacitive touchscreen and runs WinMo. I know that WinMo has its advantages, but face it: it's really behind the times. Microsoft needs to give it a complete overhaul. In my opinion, the Omnia just needs three things to make it a truly awesome device:A capacitive touchscreenGoogle AndroidA built-in headphone jackYes, I know Google Android is debatable. The OS is not quite mature yet, but it's more modernized than WinMo. Give it time, and I think it will become the best mobile OS available.

WimMo is so old fashioned and really needs to be brough to 2009. The omnia is an awesome phone only let down by the windows 2000 styling.
Guest zyc3 Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Had my Omnia Since end of December, I will admit after a few days I wanted to sell it as it was frustrating me. But I'm Glad I didn't as it's turned out to be the best phone I've owned, so many applications available and has so many features. It looks so nice and does so much more I would pick this anyday over an iphone. I found Please read the site rules no links or requests for warez.com is a good site for applications and games.
Guest aleis Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 android and iphone lovers, wait until 6.5 (especially winmo7) comes out! i think we will have the best phone out!:)

Can someone please enlighten me what they are using their omnia for and how they feel after months of use etc I have a lot of spare time at work so I load up my Omnia with comics, ebooks, mp3s and some tv episodes. Surf the net a little. I recently purchased a 2nd hand Iphone and sold it immediately. I couldn't red comics on it because Itunes would lower the resolutions of the pictures making the text unreadible. And the lack of stereo bluetooth sealed the deal for me. So yes I did get a little bored of my Omnia, but after using an Iphone I realized the Omnia is the right device for me at this moment. I liked some of the games on the Iphone though. Motion sensor makes them a lot of fun.

(i use ms reader instead of pdf coz its better for reading books) 3. i hate that you have you have to clear your library when you want to sync music with another itunes 4. i missed using my garmin gps 5. having to convert video files just to view them is a great pain in the a**. especially if it's a 2gig video, and expecially if you're transferring a whole season of heroes! ... and so many more disappointments... hardware-wise 5mp vs 2mp? come on... i haven't tried android though, but specs-wise it seems to be similar as the iphone software. Guest bulderhart Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 OK, I can't say I haven't been tempted to switch to the Touch HD. I like the resolution and the responsiveness of the screen, but the thing is just too big for me. I sure hope that Samsung (or HTC) is going to stick to the Omnia form factor, but these touch devices seem to grow bigger and bigger. Have you seen the new Toshiba? Great specs, but the size is just rediculous. Coming from a WinMo Smartphone (non-touch) Samsung BlackJack i600 I must say WinMo Professional on the Omnia has been a mixed blessing for me. I needed something with a faster CPU, a lot more memory and a solid A2DP Bluetooth implementation and I certainly got that. But I spent hours and hours trying to make the device as finger friendly as possible, even wrote some software of my own. WinMo 7 has to make a huge leap forward to catch up with the competition but I have serious doubts if they will be able to pull it off, given what we've seen until now. The most annoying thing is the stability of the whole thing. The BlackJack I had to reset maybe once a month, if that. The Omnia I have to reset practically every other day! Last week the thing failed to wake me up one morning because it got stuck again. This never happened to me with the BlackJack. Sure I'm using a couple of new applications, like SPB Mobile Shell, but in terms of applications I use on a daily basis the software setup is pretty much the same as on the BlackJack (TomTom, AgendaOne, Windows Media Player). I'm beginning to think it's the WM Pro OS vs. the smartphone OS (they have different roots) and that concerns me a lot. If Samsung comes out with a non-touch smartphone device with Omnia like specs I might switch back.
Guest Aximtreo Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) Just saw this posting and that no one has replied since 2/09. I bought my Omnia last November, 08 and loved it. I kept up with all the ROM upgrades and used TT7 for GPS. Alas, I did have to sell it but not for any negative phone reasons. My old eyes were having problems with the small screen and the $30 per month data charge was killing me. I went back to a simple cell and brought my Axim X51v back from the dead. Two devices, bulge in the pocket but I find for me it's the best alternative. Now should they come out with an Omnia with the Axim form factor, I'll be on it quick. Oh well! :) Edited September 29, 2009 by Aximtreo

It's called the Omnia 2. 3.7 inch screen that is WVGA. :D
