Guest Stevenh Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) Hi, I'm new to this ROM cooking business and want to learn a few things... When I extract a ROM or download from Secany, I end up with several files - the eboot, phone, pda and csc images. Can someone briefly describe what's it them? When cooking a new ROM, do you only edit the CSC file? Is there anything that can be customised in phone and pda parts? Is it possible and safe just to flash one of the files with GrandPrix, e.g. just the CSC file, or must you flash all 4 all the time? Thanks Steven update: Well I decided to do some experimentation myself, so here's the answer: eboot - self explanatory, this is the bootloader which would decompress the OS when a hard reset is applied. Also essential for ROM upgrade so if this gets messed up then you're f'd. pda - all the OS stuff phone - things to do with communicating with the phone parts csc - customer installation stuff For cooking, only edit csc and pda parts As per the guides, you can create a standalone exe that flashes all these files. In my case since I'm just messing around then I think it's 'safer' to use GrandPrix and only flash the bits I modify so I will always leave the eboot alone just in case. Note I just tested this by creating my own ROM and flashed pda, phone and csc only, works fine. Steven Edited February 8, 2009 by Stevenh
