Vista (and therefore Activesync) does not recognize i900

I needed to get ActiveSync working on my Vista laptop a few months back. Downloaded it, followed the instructions, and everything worked fine. Since then I've installed the SPB software.

I'm now trying to do the same thing with my Vista desktop, but while the Microsoft software seems to have installed properly, first I got messages referring to my Omnia as an unknown device, and now when I connect it, there are no messages whatever.

I've read about this on XP (http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-http-omnia-modaco-com/271673/xp-and-therefore-activesync-doesnt-recognise-i900/) but I'm not sure if it's the same for Vista.

I've lost my CD that came with the phone, so I've been trying to find where I can download the drivers from, but so far no luck. I can find lots of stuff about ROMs, but nothing for the original drivers.

The phone is i900 DX H F 8, which I've learned from this site means the phone is a Singapore model with Firmware from a particular month in 2008.

Can anyone suggest where I can get the proper drivers (or a replacement CD if that's what I need to get them), and how I can fix Vista so the phone will work with my desktop?

you'll need this for vista, not activesync:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-...ice-center.mspx

and you'll probably need this too:

(i got hte link from taril's rom thread.)

I hope I don't sound too dumb by asking this, but regarding the modem drivers, what am I supposed to do with that file? It contains lots of files - do I click on the "Setup.exe" to install the modem drivers into Vista, or do I just put the files somewhere so Windows will find them when I connect my Omnia, or ????? I read the ReadMe.doc file, but while it's got lots of information, it dosen't say what to do....

if u are using windows vista, u actually dont need any of those files nor the driver for the modem. the mistake that u did is that u tried installing activesync in vista and this is not advised because vista has it own proprietary windows mobile device center where it will detect and connect automatically to the device. in vista it is not required to install any modem driver for the omnia unless u want to install CUSTOM ROMs as the official ROMS already contain the proper modem driver for vista in it. Custom ROMS dont have the driver preincoorporated in them and therefore u will require to install the modem drivers.

but if u want only to connect to ur PC the omnia and Sync it, then u dont need anything extra to be installed, just plugg in the omnia and windows mobile device center will automatically detect it correctly.

what i can advise u to do now is to uninstall the activesync u put on the Vista machine. Restart the machine and unistall any of the modem drivers (if u installed them ) from the link given to u in the previous post. reboot the machine and then just try to plug the omnia and it will detect it and u will be able to sync ur device.

And for future reference and to help u increase ur knowledge, it is always very important to know which operating system u are using on your computer. nowadays it is either windows XP OR windowsVISTA. these are two different operating systems and software from microsoft make a difference in between them. u cannot install activesync on vista as it is meant only for XP operating systems. Vista comes already with mobile device center. maybe u should read abt this in more details, it will help u understand things better in the forums here
