Guest DiPalma Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Greetings, And thanks to anyone that helps me with this, so I got the vzw omnia for the holidays and I must say that it got me really excited. However after a month or so of having it I am starting to want to costumize it to my hearth content. So here is the list of things or tasks that I want to do, and will really appreciate anyone that can post suggestions and instructions on how to (please reply only if this are known to work apps or changes, dont want to brick my phone), I am fairly new into the WiMo world; but got a fair knowledge of IT in general as I do that for a living, basically what I'm saying is that I can follow instructions :( . Wish list: 1-) Safely backup my phone (in case I need to restore it to the way it is atm) 2-) Try a new interface (manila perhaps, open to any suggestions) 3-) Find a good Youtube player (tried TCMP and it doesnt work with Opera, only with IE which I hate and after removing it, now Opera would not open WMP to play youtube videos as it used to anymore, if anyone know how to restore it back to normal would be great as well) 4-) Get some nice games maybe (have heard of Nes emulators and that sort but not sure where or how to install them, and if they would work) I like most of the programs that come with it already installed, like the fm radio, the smartcard reader, the Office suite, and want to know if after I do stuff like install manila or other interface, are they gonna be there still? if not can they be reinstalled. Please any help is appreciated and thank you all in advance (BTW I wont even bother to ask for gps lol, I been reading the long forum and I'm just as frustrated as everyone else).

SPB or iFonz? I only ask about iFonz because you can completely customize the icons... Also PIMBackup is only good for backing up contacts and calender etc...no good if you brick your phone and need to restore the ROM, im guessing thats what you meant right?? 4 - Theres another thread all about games on here, there are some pretty cool ones out there, Asphalt 4 HD for Omnia seems to be a big hit atm!

I haven't seen iFonz I guess ill look into it. To be honest, ive been looking into ifonz, and it just doesnt match up to SPB Mobile Shell... You can get iphone skins for SPB, the only reason i might consider iFonz (although it looks very pixelated) is becuase you can move around the icons (like on an iphone) and you can change their shortcut directory in case you have your own music program, different internet browser etc... There is an SPB skin where you can move the buttons around, but unfortunately it doesnt work on the Omnia WQVGA screen :( i have inquired about a fix or how to do this but no responce!

I love SPB Backup. It is shareware and costs money, but it is great. You can do full backups, targetted backups, and it has a function to automatically sync to your desktop. 2. Lots of good ones out there. My own preference is SPB Pocket Plus. Again, shareware. But it is not only a fully customizable interface that integrates tabs, system graphics, taskbar enhancements, and all third party plug-ins, but it comes with a host of other really great utilities such as tabbed browsing for PIE, finger scrolling for most WM apps, task manager, and much more. 3. I recommend Youtubeplayer, as the previous poster did. It works very well. 4. I don't use emulators, as the Omnia doesn't have enough hard buttons or an actual D-pad for controlling emulated games, but I don't need an emulator because there are great games out there already. Step one is to get the utility called WGAFIX3 which allows QVGA games to run on the Omnia's WQVGA screen. Also, I highly recommend getting the hack that allows HTC G Sensor games to recognize the Omnia accelerator. Games I have and really like include (all free unless noted): 1. The Quest by Redshift, best RPG I have ever seen for a cell phone and frankly good enough to play on a desktop. Essentially Oblivion with stripped down graphics, but that said, the graphics are great for a phone game. Shareware but free for the first 6 levels of experience. 2. Mbropoker - Great 7 card stud game playing against 6 computer opponents each with its own personality and betting styles. 3. Scrobble 1.2 - Best freeware Scrabble game out there. 4. tripYzee - Nice yahtzee game. 5. Pocket Uno, Pocket RackO, Pocket Parchisi - made by the same developer, all quality games and very well implemented. Good AI. 6. Pocket Mille Bournes - I love mille bournes and this is the best freeware version I have seen. Play two or four player versions. 7. Smart Mahjong - Nice mahjong game. Tiles can be small and so you need good vision to discern some of the symbols from others, but overall very nice implementation. 8. NS Pairs - A simple but amusing concentration game where you try to match symbols. Good for kids. 9. Marble Worlds 2 - Really fun marble game using the acclerometer. I have only begun to try this. First poart is freeware, later levels shareware. Looks great so far! 10. Pocket UFO - An almost exact port of the game Xcom. One of the most beloved games in the history of electronic gaming. 11. Pocket Humanity - If you like Civilization type games this is the best for the cellphones. The graphics are not great, but the play is pretty interesting and 4x4 games are not easy to find for a cellphone. 12. Pocket Fallout - I just got this one, and some of the text is in Russian, but so far it is an amazing port of Fallout. Definitely worth a look. Devin

Devin Cool the question that I still have is, will the apps that come already installed with the phone still be there after I install anything like iFonz or Spb, and can I just remove it like any other program or app if I dont like it?
