Guest goodguy6 Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 I have a BlackJack II using AT&T with unlimited Internet. Here are the symptoms: 1. The Icons for the shortcuts are missing from the main screen. They are replaced by the Windows flag logos. When I click on one, i get: "Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename." 2. The Start Menu is blank. When I click on Start, I get a blank screen. 3. I can't get to file manager, so don't know if I still have my applications. The last thing I remember doing on the phone is looking up an image under Google Images. When I turned on the phone, I got a strange test message, which unfortunately, I didn't save. I do get the Contact List. The phone portion seems to work normally. I've tried turning the phone off, unplugging the battery for 2 minutes, then re-starting. No effect. Help!
Guest hgtcba Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Hi have you tried a hardreset??? Backup you files then turn off the phone and turn it on again but holding the up key of the keypad (wheel). hope you can fix your problem
Guest goodguy6 Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 (edited) Thanks, but I would only do that as a last resort. I looked at the BJII's folders using Activesync, and all the programs and data are still there. Something seems to have happened to the shortcuts. It looks like they are not pointing to the right sub-folder. I saw another tip about using the Start Menu to switch back from List view to Grid view, but I never see the Start menu. Does anyone know of a Windows Mobile 6.0 repair utility that may restore the links? Would an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 resolve this issue? Any other ideas? Edited February 14, 2009 by goodguy6
Guest Nottach Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 you could try smart toolkit. it sounds to me like you messed up your registry. did you do the "reorder start menu" hack? messing up something there can cause this problem. http://www.modaco.com/content/i617-i617-mo...stions-on-i617/ get stk there.
Guest goodguy6 Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Where can I find the "reorder start menu" hack? Since I can't get to the phone's File Manager, how would I run the Smart Toolkit? Can It be done from the ActiveSync-connected laptop? you could try smart toolkit. it sounds to me like you messed up your registry. did you do the "reorder start menu" hack? messing up something there can cause this problem. http://www.modaco.com/content/i617-i617-mo...stions-on-i617/ get stk there.
Guest Nottach Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 try going into settings-key setting-FN keys. setup a key to open file explorer or resco if you have it. then you can launch that program from the home screen with a FN+"chosen letter" combo. start menu hack. Using a reg editor navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu\order By clicking on the Order value, you can cut and paste the shortcuts and folders in your order of preference, in the Value Data field, then reboot the phone. You must have one entry per line. Those without a .lnk extention refer to folders. You can use windows explorer to reorder the items within the folders on the device: JUST MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS SPELLED RIGHT, ALSO IF THERE IS AN ITEM IN THE LIST THAT IS NOT IN YOUR START MENU REMOVE IT FROM THE LIST, THIS HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS FOR ME, (EX. if you delete cellular video.lnk from the start menu then remove it from this list) DONT FORGET THE EXTENSIONS FOR SORTCUTS. ".LNK" FOLDERS DO NOT HAVE EXTENSIONS. Messaging.lnk Calendar.lnk Contacts.lnk Camera.lnk Call History.lnk Task Manager.lnk My Stuff.lnk Windows Media.lnk Opera Browser.lnk Internet Explorer.lnk Applications Settings.lnk Organizer
