Battery Draining Really Quick - How to Diagnose?

Hi all.

I have been getting a half decent life out of my battery up until fri...

Now the phone can be at 50% battery after only a few hours. Wifi Off - Bluetooth Off

Has anyone else noticed this, or is there a way I can diagnose what app could be drainging my battery.

The Phone is hot as well so I am guessing it must be APP or OS related.

Just got mine Friday and I had the sam problem this weekend. I let it charge all night last night, but I'm watching it close today. Only app I'm really running on top of Samsung Today is the s2u app.

What version of firmware are you guys running. Please check this under settings-System-Version and report back. If the version is outdated you might want to get the latest firmware from the samsung website to fix this issue.

I am using SHOKKA9 LITE DXIA2 ROM Was fine till back end of last week

thought maybe it was my internal memory (8gb) I filled with mp3's however removed 2gb worth and made no difference, went from 1/4 to off in about half an hour.....really warm as well

If you set up push policy there is nothing strange about that since then your Omnia is constantly connected to internet with permanent connection to google server.

I have had ActivSync set up to our exchange servers also though, and not notice the massive difference in batters consumption as I did with Google. I was also under the impression that activsync worked by only initialising a full on update when new material arrived rather than constantly looking for changes.....

Hey I don't know if anyone has tried this, I stumbled on it by accident, but I was noticing that I wasn't getting very good battery life/performance I would use the internet for about 20 mins and I was already down to 80% and my the end of my 8hr day i'd be down to 60%, then I would get a phone call and "low battery warning" so I started to look into getting another battery that was 1500mah and only 19.99

so I put my phone to charge last nite and just out of curiosity I wanted to see the capacity of my battery, i removed my battery my phone while it was plugged in, when I put the battery back on I saw an animated battery meter, showing my phone was charging...I didn't need the phone that nite so I left the phone off and let it charge...I wasn't able to let it charge completely, so at 3:15am, yes A.M. I unplugged it and when i used my phone today I used the internet for about 45 mins to an hour, and it still showed 100% about 20 text messages and 6hrs later it dropped to 80% and stayed at 80% till about 7pm was on the phone for about an hour down to 60% and still going...

I dont think I need to do this every night, but if anyone was having battery life issues u may want to try this at least once and see if it improves.

How is the battery performing now-a-days, is it still keeping it's charge? Also, it's obvious it worked for you but wasn't that a dangerous thing to try in terms of ruining the battery or corrupting the software of the phone? If there is no danger of this happening then I'm definitely going to try it as I'm scared of flashing a new ROM as I only have access to Vista, but I'm also dubious about trying this for the reasons mentioned.

To fellow Modaco's; Has anyone else tried this and if there is, how is it?

BINGO!

Google Sync will keep your phone and it's cellular radio quite busy even when the phone is in the suspend state.

You'll find the same battery issues if you set up mail to a pop3 server and set your polling update to something like 5 minutes. Goodbye battery.

Clarification of what's going on here: When you remove the battery, you in essence shut down the phone. This is different than putting it into suspend mode. It is identical to shutting down Windows on your PC. You have to reboot.

However, you don't need to pull the battery to do this. A much cleaner, safer way is to just shut Windows Mobile down by holding the power button on the top of the phone until your carrier screen shows (and probably plays a little tune). After the phone finishes shutting down, it will not "wake up" or turn on with a short press of the power button like it does when it is simply suspended. Shutting down via the power button allows the OS to flush caches (especially important if you have hacked the registry and enabled the FileSystem cache).

Once shut down, WM is no longer monitoring charging and providing indicators for it. Instead, the only thing "running" is the hardware charging circuit, which always manages the charging algorithm of for the battery whether the phone is booted or not. The charging hardware displays a very simple large, white, animated battery icon that will display for 30 seconds or so when the phone is plugged in.

This is the lowest power state for the phone, and will charge the fastest. You won't get the audible tone indication when charging is complete, but the power button will turn green when it's fully charged as usual. Also, I have been able to achieve a full charge with green power button overnight charging from USB -- something that others have noted here is seemingly impossible via the lower power USB connection for a phone booted, even if suspended.

Finally, there is no concern regardling damaging the battery or the phone by removing or inserting the battery while the phone is plugged in to power. Also, WM is a very robust OS, designed to tolerate well power losses, so chances of screwing anything up by removing the battery while not under AC power are vanishingly close to zero (see caution above regarding FS cache -- be more careful if you've turned that on).

However, you don't.........................

I see, of course. The phone was turned off completely. I'm so used to putting mine in sleep mode (by a quick tap of the power button) that when i read ".....I didn't need the phone that nite so I left the phone off and let it charge......" i automatically assumed Pdub73 meant in sleep mode.

Many thanks for taking the time to explain the details. Now i know why it takes ages to fully charge my phone :(

I'm going to give it a go tonight. fingers crossed.
