FTA: "It seems Microsoft is looking to market their new touch-optimized Windows Mobile on new hardware, giving loyal Windows Mobile fans a swift kick in the pants at the same time." I seriously doubt we will see an update with this because money. If you want 6.5, Microsoft wants you to buy a new phone because they get royalties. Of course phone manufacturers want you to buy a new phone too. HTC devices MIGHT see this in an update because every time I see 6.5 it's running on a Touch Pro or Diamond. But HTC are famous for supporting their phones after-market. We might. MIGHT see a hacked version of 6.5 running via cooked ROM if some industrious developer sees fit to take a whack at it. For now though, just be happy with what you have and in two years time or whenever it's your contract renewal time, who knows, WM 7 might be out. Edited February 16, 2009 by Daugvolf

Guest Nosferatu™ Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 (edited) Samsung also launches the new OMNIA HD @ MWC 2009 and two other "Beat Phones", the DJ M7600 and Disc M6710. But in the OMNIA HD, there's no sign of WinMo 6.5. Oh well... still hoping to have it on our Omnia's though. :( Details here... http://www.intomobile.com/2009/02/16/samsu....html/omnia-hd/ & http://www.intomobile.com/2009/02/16/samsu...s.html/beat-dj/ Edited February 16, 2009 by Nosferatu™
Guest Frankish Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Let's hope our chefs are feeling adventerous!
Guest aridoasis Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 http://www.gsmarena.com/windows_mobile_65_...09-news-799.php seems the new versions of the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro come out with win 6.1 but are upgradable to 6.5, so i thinks its possible to upgrade our omnias. xxx hopefully.
Guest shokka9 Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 It is already on other devices over at xda, but the got notice from Microsoft to remove all links to the ROMs. When i get a full, clean copy (if ever?), i will happily install this to the Omnia... With regards to the Omnia HD, looks ok (not as good as current Omnia or HTC Touch HD), and it runs symbian OS, so bad move for Samsung...

At least not officially. And as I see there will be some problems with cooking it into ROM. Xda had some problems about that already. Only the newest HTC devices - Diamond 2 and Touch Pro 2 will be allowed to get update from 6.1 to 6.5. Omnia HD is running on Symbian for one simple reason. Camera. You can't use 8mpx camera under WM, and you can't record HD video. So it's not bad move. They just haven't any better choice. And Symbian requirements are much lower. As I've read in gsmarena review, they managed to play video on OmniaHD up to 3mbps which is simply WOW. And the proccesor is only 600mhz.
Guest escobol Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 (edited) oh jeah - close button is almost perfect :( (i think that in wm 7.0 it will be without any extra pixels outside X) and hmm, look ath the contacts - it has other type of X -smaller one and jamesjames_ i think that u are wrong, wm 6.1 devices will be updated to the 6.5 (like it was before 6.1) - the only matter is time of an update- end of this year? ot : wm 6.5 got also 65k pallet of colours? (it looks that way on a buttons - they are not so smoth) Edited February 16, 2009 by escobol

Guest Nosferatu™ Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Still keeping my fingers crossed... hope to hear from samsung for that matter... soon. BTW, is Omnia capable of having WinMo 6.5?
Guest aridoasis Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 not sure about it... there was some mention of hardware compatibility though...
Guest jamesjames_ Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 not sure about it... there was some mention of hardware compatibility though... That won't be the problem. It will pass all the requirements for sure. But Microsoft won't release as update for Omnia. We can only count on cooked ROMs but that might be a problem too as we see on xda forum.
Guest Echew Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Yummy!!! now only if Verizon i910 has custom ROMs that could include it! Don't hold your breath!

I remember when I bought ASUS A636N with Windows Mobile 5 everyone was saying that this device won't get upgrade to WinMo 6. But ASUS decided to create an system upgrade and after few months they released new ROM with WinMo 6. So this is Samsung's decision.
