Guest Natsirt Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Hey guys, ive had my omnia for about 6 months now, and I still havn't been able to work the GPS.. mayb im just really stupid, but i cant seem to get a gps program to work on my omnia.. i dun think its the hardware problem, i just dont know how to set it up :( I've tried Garmin XT and that got me nowhere (couldnt get the maps on :S).. so i was wondering if any kind person can point me to a thread or briefly tell me how to install a full GPS program and just run it? any help would be greatly appreciated =)
Guest a157n Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 You probrably just have the basemap for garmin xt. You need to buy the (i'm assuming you want US) North America mapsource. There's a program included called mapinstall - its fairly intuitive. I've heard good things about TomTom - it seems to load and run faster than garmin...haven't had the chance to try it out myself so can't say.
Guest MrJoneswii Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I use Igo8 and it works like a charm. Do you know if your GPS is fully functional? Try first to enable your GPS with Google Maps and see if that works. Make sure you're not inside when using GPS!
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I use Copilot 7 for WinMo. You can download it directly to your PC from their UK website, copy it to your storage card, and when you install it, it'll set itself up. Map upgrades are available to for the rest of the world. I use it all over europe and it works great and is also easy to use.
Guest barbs666 Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Hey guys, ive had my omnia for about 6 months now, and I still havn't been able to work the GPS.. mayb im just really stupid, but i cant seem to get a gps program to work on my omnia.. i dun think its the hardware problem, i just dont know how to set it up :( I've tried Garmin XT and that got me nowhere (couldnt get the maps on :S).. so i was wondering if any kind person can point me to a thread or briefly tell me how to install a full GPS program and just run it? any help would be greatly appreciated =) ok, For those in OZ who are not fully nerdy to spend there life in front of a computer screen: Download the IGO8 Australia maps/speedcam etc. if you are looking for more info then a good forum as well is ppcwarez There are a couple of links in this topic as well as a couple in the "IGO8" section that can provide the IGO8 Nav software. If you live in Australia only download the IGO8 software with no maps in it as they usually contain Europe maps. The version should be IGO8 and above. the file size will be around 50-100mb for the IGO8 software and extra for the maps (not to big) and will easily fit on a SD card. You can place it in the "my storage" of the phone memory (i900 Omnia) but i found you may need to change a couple things.... there is a few places here(ppcwarez) that will show you that. I HOWEVER FOUND IT EASIER TO USE A MICRO SD CARD (mine is an old 1Gb but work fine). Place the files on the SD card (I used a usb attachment to the PC) and put the MAPS from above in the igo8/content folder ( iGo8 Oceania Terrain DEM renamed to dem ; iGo8 Australia Speedcam v15 renamed speedcam ; iGO8 Australia MAP renamed map ; iGo8 Australia Buildings renamed building ) To save some space I removed from the igo8/content/voice folder any language you wont use. Insert the SD card into the phone (which should be off) and then turn it on, it will start as normal, then it will ask you to install igo8, click yes to all the pop ups (read them first) there will be a couple about installing from a trusted source etc...... then bingo.... you will most likely (according to your layout) have the igo8 logo on your screen somewhere. double tap it and off it goes....... with my i900 omnia I think there is a screen issue with regards to landscape / portrait viewing, so i have to us in landscape before i run the program otherwise my screen pops up a message about .bmp file or something then goes blank...... if this happens to you all i did was use the finger-pad move the mouse over somewhere near the message and click it it should dissapear and you have your screen back..... nothing to drastic. Hope this helps. Enjoy...... now i can finally use my phone to the fullest! as with anything internet related you can find pirated stuff but its better to support the developers + its safer. Oh and check your settings to. u will find all the info on those forums. cheers!
Guest andromedia Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Natsirt, I believe you are looking for Australia map. Perhaps some Aussie members here can point you to the right direction in getting Garmin maps for Australia. But before that, did you configure your hardware correctly? GPS hardware settings for Omnia :- Under Start Menu -> System -> Settings -> External GPS, under Programs, GPS program port is COM3. Under Hardware, GPS hardware port is COM9 and baud rate can be 9600 or 38400. Works either way. And next, under Access, check the box. That should enable Garmin to detect your hardware properly. You should at least get "Aquiring Satelitte" even without a lock or map... if you can't get that, then you need more help than just these...
