Guest Master Gee Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) From now on it is possible to use pop3 to receive the emails from your hotmail-account. Because I just couldn't get my windows live to work I searched the internets and found the following on this ducth website <http://www.iphoneclub.nl/23259/windows-live-hotmail-krijgt-pop3-ondersteuning-makkelijker-hotmail-op-de-iphone-ontvangen/> The severname for pop3: pop3.live.com The smpt server: smtp.live.com In order for this to work you'll have to: - set up a New E-mail. It then asks for your e-mail address. - DON'T use your real e-mail cause then it will automatically search for the settings. - Instead use A FAKE e-mail adress like [email protected]. When you're done go next. - In the following page uncheck the box that asks if you want to try to get the settings automatically. - Go to the next page. - Select 'internet e-mail'. - Go next. - Fill in your name and the name of the account (I used 'hotmail') - Go next. - Fill in pop3.live.com and select pop3. - Go next - Fill in your username ([email protected]) and your password and check the box. - Go next - Fill in smtp.live.com and check both boxes - Select 'Advanced Server Settings' - Check both (SSL) boxes and select the network you use to connect to the internet. - Go Next. - Select Finish Your done!!!! Hope this helps. In this way you won't have to use windows live!!! Edited February 23, 2009 by Master Gee

Guest TBFL Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Or better yet, Hotmail has recently taken the restrictions off of its mail forwarding feature. I'm forwarding all of my Hotmail to my Gmail account, which I check on my device using IMAP. :( How ? Mine will only let me forward to another hotmail or live or msn account. Won't let me forward to gmail or my domain email. " You're only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again."
Guest inferno234 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 how do you delete the hotmail one after you set up using live? now i got duplicate copy on my inbox.. the pop3 version and the orig hotmail live version.. i found pop3 version to be better at handling emails.. I guess I had the same problem: Once I installed WL and input my Hotmail info, it created a Hotmail link in the "Messaging", but I couldnt delete it. (uninstalling WL would "remove it" but it was still there, as I couldn't make another account with the "Hotmail" name) So this is what I did: If you already uninstalled WL, reinstall and log back into your account in WL Now, go to Menu > Account Options > Switch Accounts Answer Yes (CAUTION: this deletes the hotmail emails stored on the device, but if they are still in your hotmail account, they are fine!) Wait for it to load, EULA will pop up, REJECT IT Uninstall WL Set up new account following the instructions of the OP
Guest mediavue Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 This works great - apart from one thing that will force me back to Windows live.... how do you get it to download the subfolders from hotmail? I have downloaded my email but it hasn't picked up the subfolders... however windows live does by going to manage folders.... any ideas?

The protocol used is POP3 so only the inbox folder is synchronised Windows live uses a different way to synch mail so you get all folders

It downloads the inbox messages from my live.com email. I can send emails too. Then after no specific amount of time, maybe there's a limit to how many I can send out, but for some reason out of no where ( after I know its configured correctly ) I will try to send a message and I will get that infamous messages canot be sent check that your account is correct or that you have data coverage or plan or something. I have no idea why this happens but it cetainly annoying. I shut it down but that doesn't work. I wind up deleting the account and setting it up again. It works for a while again, but the same thing happens. Does anyone know why this happens or what I can do?
Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 The protocol used is POP3 so only the inbox folder is synchronised Windows live uses a different way to synch mail so you get all folders So does the Windows Live... You get the folders but with no emails..... Is it happening with me only or the same for every one.
Guest Piemole Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 This works great, it should be pinned IMHO

Guest Natsirt Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 yay! I've been looking for a How-To guide to set up hotmail on my phone (from the messaging), and now this works perfectly! Thats another thing off my to-do list =) I agree with Piemole, this should be pinned ;)
Guest vishalm Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I find windows live far better feature wise. Moving to pop means you will no longer get push email, which works very well to be honest. And I've set up folder redirections on my hotmail so i will miss alot of my important mails which my filters pick up.
Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 R U getting emails in all folders as for me it's only inbox?... any clue? I find windows live far better feature wise. Guest vishalm Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 R U getting emails in all folders as for me it's only inbox?... any clue? Yh, in pocket outlook Click tools, Manage Folders and then tick the folders to you want to be sync'd.
Guest wasubi Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Is it possible to have multiple hotmail accounts show? I have one of mine working fine, no worries, just wanting to add another, obviously via the same process u have provided for all - Good work ;)
Guest Draconius Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Yh, in pocket outlook Click tools, Manage Folders and then tick the folders to you want to be sync'd. Are you just downloading windows live and going from there? Last time I did that it annoyingly sync'd all my contacts from my hotmail account onto my phone so I had many doubles or old ass accounts I don't use anymore.
Guest the v Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 nah dont work for the live version of hotmail.. it work for the pop3 one but.. i tried that last night already.. tried everything still same.. the live hotmail version is filling up my memory.. -___- Once Windows Live is configured on the device, it appears that it's not possible to delete it. One way I've found so far is to delete a registry entry. While this solves the problem, however, it makes it impossible to re-use Windows Live without a hard reset. Today I found a much easier way to do that and one that does not require manipulating the registry. Windows Live can be reconfigured later without a hard reset. To achieve that, open Windows Live in Start - Programs on the device. In the Menu, select Account Options and select Switch Accounts. This will remove all emails from your device. When done, the EULA page will appear. On that screen, make sure you select REJECT. Windows Live setup will stop and you will be taken back to WL main page - The page with Live Search and the Sign-in to Windows Live link. Check in Messaging and Windows Live mailbox is gone. :) http://www.windowsmobiletraining.com/Conne...1186.aspx#11186
