Guest dwallersv Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Did it last night... got a green power light. Starting from 40% charge, completely shut down the Omnia (hold power button until the device shows the carrier screen and then completely shuts down), and plug it in via the USB cable to my laptop. The hardware charging display shows (simple white animated battery display), and power button lights red. Got up this morning, power button light was green. Unplugged the cable, booted the Omnia, 100% charge indicated.
Guest jeffrey2000 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Mine does'nt charge while the display is on (it seems like it's charging but doesn't really)... but by pressing the upper power/stand-by button (so the screen turns off) it actually charges but takes a longer time comparing to the power adapter.

If the screen turns off then maybe the phone is using less and thus the screen powering power goes direct to the battery instead. Of course though, I dont work in the field of electrical engineering so I could be talking complete bolloxs :( Just it seems logical to me.

Cool - and I guess with the screen off the omnia uses less mA's and so it charges quicker than with the screen on (over USB of course).
Guest dwallersv Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 With it completely shut down (not just asleep), it doesn't "use" any power except for the charging circuit, and a tiny bit to light the power button and display that white segmented animated battery in the display briefly. My reason for posting this thread was in response to another thread or two a while ago on this topic, with people complaining that the Omnia didn't charge via USB or only a trickle, and NEVER fully charged to a green power button indication. I'd never seen that either on USB. Last night I got the idea to give it a try with the phone completely shut down. It worked. Useful when you may be traveling, have your USB cable but forgot to bring the charger.

A lot less. The backlight for the screen is a voracious power gobbler. Also keep in mind that the cell, wifi, and bluetooth radios are all power hogs. Shutting down the phone, of course, eliminates all of these. I'm going to give this another try tonight with the phone in Flight Mode and asleep, instead of completely shut down. I suspect that with the radios all off, and the phone in sleep mode that the power draw is only slightly more than when completely shut down. I'll report back tomorrow.
Guest kersey Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I tried doing as said in Post #1 but after i turn off the phone and plug in the usb nothing happens...the phone isn't recognised and there is no white battery display or anything happening with the power light. Any ideas why this isnt working. I'm using the DXIA5 official firmware. Thanks

Obviously this is wrong. Battery is 1440 mah, so if omnia consumed 700ma, battery would last only 2 hours. Generally not the case when not playing HD movies :(

Guest Ingvarr Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Point is, unless you are charging from USB while playing video, USB power should be enough.
