Guest dwallersv Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 (edited) Many people have encountered backup errors with the file \My Storage\POCKETFS.SYS. Backup programs from Sprite, SpbSoftware, Resco, and others barf on this file and can't back it up because it's locked. I found out what it is (see here for details: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/sem...S_Brochure.html) Basically, it's a replacement flash filesystem driver for Samsung's NAND-based flash memory. This is why you find it both on the internal flash (My Storage) and also in the root storage (/), but not on any external flash card you add to the Omnia. It sounds like quite an improvement over the stock WM flash filesystem driver, if the marketing hype at the above link is to be believed (which I have no reason not to). It sounds like a lite-weight journaled filesystem, which for the layman means it's very robust and tolerant of sudden power loss (which in a non-JFS creates all sorts of corruption in filesystem structures, sometimes making it unrecoverable). BACKUP BOTTOM LINE: Ignore it. It is not a file that changes, like other drivers. It is in ROM, so is restored when doing a hard reset. Configure your backup program to exclude it, and your backups will then only log real errors. Edited February 26, 2009 by dwallersv
