Guest kendubya Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Hi, This is my second omnia i910. My first was returned after about a month because I noticed these faint blue spots on the lower right quadrant of the screen. VZW said no prob and promptly sent me a replacement. The replacement looked fine...for about a month. The spots have reappeared. Not in exactly the same place, but really close. Because of the initial issue, I've been careful about how I interact with the touchscreen. Both devices have had screen protectors and hard plastic cases since unboxing. I've looked carefully at my carrying case to see if there's a problem there...nothing I can see as a problem. Any clues?
Guest doppelganger63 Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I have it on the lower left. Going to call Verizon. Steve

Guest kendubya Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 magnet discoloration maybe? Is this possible?
Guest doppelganger63 Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 I have a new Omnia on the way from Verizon. They were very agreeable about sending me another unit. Steve
Guest Massive Attack Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Is this possible? yes, as some cases have magnet as their means of locking the case, if the magnet is right at front of the lcd, it will discolor your lcd to blue, try it, find a magnet and put it near your screen, though just dont put it for too long or the discoloration will be permanent.
Guest St.James Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 there have been a bunch of us with i900's that have screen discoloration on the lower mid-left. For me there is a shape that is brighter pixels than the rest of the screen. Previous posts have revealled that there are a small percent of machines that get this with GPS use (the GPS chip is located there(?) ). But seems odd to cause blue, or not in a general shape.
Guest kendubya Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 So, yes my case, which came with my omnia from verizon, is a mag closure. The closure is centered and not positioned over the discoloration. I don't use GPS 'cause VZW charges for it (for now). But the discoloration is shaped like this * * * * again, in the lower left quad
Guest xPosTech Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 I've seen reports of blue discoloration resulting from heat generated by tethering for long periods/long downloads or streaming. Seems the radio and battery heat up. Are you tethering or streaming data for long periods? Have you noticed any heating of the phone? I understand the GPS receiver heats the phone up as well. If the GPS is ever unlocked on the i910 I will probably go for a vent mount in the car. AC venting to the back of the phone should help with that. Ted

Ted I have never tethered or used the radio with my phone. My discoloration isn't pixels, it's a 1/4" thick line that is very light blue. If this happens with my replacement, I may consider another phone. Problem is, where do you go after the Omnia? :( Steve
