Guest bexupnorth Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Hi Folks brand new here. Following a disastrous choice of my previous phone I thought I'd do some proper research before deciding on my next upgrade, hope you don't mind helping. I would like to do the following in order of preference: - Reliably connect to Outlook/my PC - Read PDF technical documents - Read bar codes - Edit MS office files I would really like the HTC Touch Pro, but our hardware department ain't having that so my next choices are: - Samsung Omnia - HP data Messenger Our hardware department really want me to get a Nokia E66, but I'm pretty sure it won't do the PDF thing very well and it doesn't do the barcode reading either (I think). Oh and I'm restricted to Vodafone. Many thanks, Ade.
Guest pernod2k Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Hi I've no experience of the Samsung, but I do have the Data messenger. It will do all you want, I've read some reports that dont like the lower res. screen, I've never noticed that its not hi re. ... although I suppose I wouldnt if I've not seen one to compare. I like the phone although there are 2 or 3 little gripes from my point of view. 1 Battery life.... I may just have a poor battery (something I should really check) but it goes flat after 24 to 48 hours, I don't notice it that much as I synch it with my PC daily. 2 Micro USB cable connection, I'm used to mini USB and see it as a pointless idea changing the standard to micro. The connector is also on the side of the phone behind a rubber cover... I'm synch'ing the phone every day, why not put it on the base and open, the rubber won't last forever. 3 Lack of accessories, I'd love a case to put it in for carrying and a specific screen protector (I will use a universal one cut to size soon), but as the phone is relitavely new there are few items to buy... I dont really consider HP's own car cradle/charger an option at £95. I'm running spd touch software that gives the touch screen an iphone look, quite good. and tom tom transfered well from my HTC phone.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Well Windows Mobile will do everything apart from the bar code straight out of the box. You can get the barcode scanner applications though. I do not know the HP device as such but depending on your job what sort of physical abuse will the device come under as this may also be a factor to consider.
