Guest shadowsjc Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 (edited) i've found this weird thing with my omnia running manila 2d 19b. whenever i have s2u2 installed, i can only run about 2-3 concurrent programs in the background (i.e. minimized). any more than that and they will suddenly start to close without warning. this goes away if i 1) uninstall s2u2 , or 2) disable manila2d and use the samsung widgets or today 1 instead. i dont know if windows has a built in feature where it closes programs if your memory usage is too high. i dont think that s2u2 uses up too much memory on its own, though, so i dont see why this should be an issue. i think it's more likely that there's some sort of conflict between the m2d and s2u2. however, i know they are both popular programs, and i cant believe that this problem has never shown up before, so i fear it may be an issue with my phone. i already hard reset twice and installed m2d after hard reset, and s2u2 afterward, and both times the conflict arises (and disappears once i uninstall s2u2) im stuck on this - any ideas whats going on? Guest WoZZeR999 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Q. Some of my device's background jobs (like email sync or bluetooth connection) stopped unexpectedly when S2U2 is running? A. Try to turn off "Power Safe mode" & turn on NoPowerSuspend. Taken from the S2U2 Faq... http://s2u2.eqvipage.dk/S2U2/Faq.txt
Guest shadowsjc Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 thanks so much for that tip - i didnt associate background processes with minimized programs. i tested it just now and it appears to be working normally. ill test it out for a day or so , and hopefully it sticks. again thanks alot :(
Guest shadowsjc Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 tried it again and it still happened after awhile. i dont know if it's because im using task switcher to view my running programs instead of task manager. when i open task switcher, i'll get the 'busy/waiting' symbol for winmo, and then after 2 seconds it will load, but my programs will be shut down. i uninstalled s2u2 again and its fine, but im gonna try reinstalling it and using task manager to view my programs to see if they still get shut down
Guest WoZZeR999 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 A new S2U2 was released today that had a few bug fixes.
Guest shadowsjc Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 hi -yeah i tried it with v1.52 and still no luck. i had my previously saved cabs for the older versions, so i also tried: 1.50d 1.50 1.45 1.42 and all still showed the same problem (i uninstalled from start > settings > remove programs before installing each new version)
Guest WoZZeR999 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 What app's are closing? Are they designed to turn off when the phone is put into low power mode? What else do you have installed.
Guest shadowsjc Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 a ton of stuff, but the programs that shut down are really random. basically anything and everything: - palringo - standard windows email - phonebook - phm regedit - notes - calendar - tcmp basically ive tried with as many different programs as i can think of, and they all close down as soon as s2u2 gets installed. they shouldnt be designed to shut during low power mode

I also run S2U2 and M2D .... hmmmmm... I was told that it's a WM6 feature to unload programs as memory ran low. But I never tested it without S2U2 uninstalled as I always use it.. Does M2D sometimes shutdown on you as well? Edited March 7, 2009 by mashimus
Guest shadowsjc Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 no m2d never shuts down... just the random programs in the background. good to see im not the only one it's happening to, lol
Guest fall Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Yep, I noticed this too. Im using only m2d, no s2u2. And sometimes m2d also shuts down - turns into blue/green screen and says tap here to launch manilla.
Guest thepeoplesclub Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I had this problem with m2d closing random and opera mini through esmertec java was always shutting down. It would happen every day and it has only just stopped when I unistalled Second Today. I had Second Today running spb wireless monitor as a 2nd today plugin to monitor my grprs, now I just use Spb wireless popup on my program list on m2d to check out my data. It worked for me hopefully you will find something similar that will help you, I have M2d and S2U2 still running ok all the time with no programs closing.
Guest comic75 Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I have the same problem - but s2u2 and Winterface. They both randomly shutdown when minimized. S2u2 is easy to tell when it has been shut down because the version info scrolls along the bottom the first time its activated. I have so much stuff loaded - I'm going to start stripping out stuff to see what happens.
Guest ZtF Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 It's not a bug, it's a feature... Windows Mobile 6 (and 6.1) is based on Windows CE 5 (5.2), which has some limitations (such as max. num. of processes is 32). WinMo7 will (or maybe is) based on WinCE 6, which has new memory management, new kernel etc. Just have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Embedded_CE_6.0 Any solution? Nope... basically no. SPB Soft published an article about it in 2004 but that's just a recommendation for developers where they suggest threading instead of forking, which however doesn't solve the problem... So the only thing we can do is... wait for WinMo7.
Guest shadowsjc Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 thanks for that link. at least now i know what the heck was going on
