Guest DeepBlueEditor Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 (edited) If you haven't been there yet, Photoshop Mobile has been working on a nice little app that allows you to upload, view and alter images sent from various phones directly to Photoshop.com. They are giving out 2Gb of free storage there as well with plans to up it to 5Gb - 20Gb if you buy membership. Looking through the phones and the low number of folks on the forums there, it may be a while before they develop an app specifically for our friend, the i910. In an effort to use this app, I downloaded the HTC Touch app and installed it. Seems to work fine for viewing my photos already on Photoshop.com but, apparently there is code to find specific directories on cells where the app is then looking for pics stored on the cell in various folders. I have no idea how to find out what folders this app is searching as it shows I have no pics on my device but I acually have a lot. Could someone with more kung fu take a look at the application and try to figure out a way to use this version on our phones. Adobe is really slow it seems at making this available for new devices and this is SO much easier than that weird app ShoZu. (I can't stand the convoluted mess that is ShoZu) Anyway, thought it might be helpful to a lot of us if we could figure out the HTC Touch version and make the correct directories that it seems to be looking for and have the pics automatically placed there. App looks nice and includes auto upload of newly snapped pics, if we can find a way to make it see our pics. I tried putting the app on "My Device" as well as in "My Storage". No juice. Guest DeepBlueEditor Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I'm going to guess nobody else has an interest in this app? Seems odd but to each his/her own I guess. If anyone wants to use this, I have found that on the Omnia i910 I can use the HTC touch version BUT, you must set your camera to put the pics it takes in the root of the "My Storage" folder for the Photoshop Mobile app to see them. This naturally makes life a bit messy since normally they are stored in a "My Storage/DCIM/101SSCAN or similar folder and that keeps them neatly organized. Somebody needs to find out what the directory structure the app is looking for to see all the images. It is supposed to find pics stored on your card too, and it will if again they are stored at the root of the card, again, messy. There needs to be a way to define what folders the application looks in for pics. The developers at photoshop mobile are ignoring the forum there for some reason so I am wondering how serious they are about this app. That's it for now. It is functional but messy so far. Automatic upload does work however so it is seemless and in the background as soon as an image shows up in the proper place. Sean
Guest DeepBlueEditor Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) Answered my own questions; First, go to Photoshop.com and the Mobile site, sign up and download the mobile app for the HTC Touch. I have been using this one for a while now. You can set up whether the app itself automatically sends new pics in your cameras folder to Photoshop.com at your account and whether you want them shared to the world or not. This means that there is a subsystem running in the background all the time to watch for new additions to your cameras folders so if you don't want that running, this app may not be for you. Frankly, it isn't impacting my performance as far as I can tell. Set the app to use your external storage card. The reg edit we are about to make will only work for the storage card. There is a reg entry for Photoshop.com Mobile once installed. Full path is here - HKEY_Current_User/Software/Adobe/Photoshop.com Mobile/Storage_card_dirs If you are running an Omnia i910 you can wipe out the text in the registry there and replace it with DCIM\103SSCAM Note that my Omnia i910 is using 103SSCAM as the default image folder on the external storage card. Check your device and see what the current storage area is for storing your camera photos ON THE EXTERNAL STORAGE CARD. You'll note that you can't specify exact folders for the camera to use from the camera app, only whether to use the internal card, external card or device memory. Not sure why my camera is currently using 103SSCAM rather than say 100SSCAM but that's probably something I did, or it may change based on different camera parameters or something. Anyway, set the registry to that directory. Now, whenever you take a picture, if you have it set to upload automatically, it will start the radio portion of the phone and use your allotted data to send the photos. If you take a lot of photos, you are going to be uploading for a while and if you are on a metered data service, this likely isn't the app for you. Remember that at full res, these are 5.0 mega pixel images. Take 10 of these and have them sent automatically and you'll see a big chunk of data usage on the bill. You can always control the app manually and send only the images you like from in the app. Have fun and jump on the forum and tell them this works for you so they will release a pre-built official version with caveats about using it with the storage card, or they can try to fix the registry so it works with our hard coded camera directories.
