Guest stgmngr210 Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I am going to go postal. :( I am one of the lucky one's whose Omnia just stopped sending/recieving email via broadband one day. It is evidently a wm 6.1 problem: "This behavior is associated with a feature that was introduced in Windows Mobile 6.1. It provides a way for users to send e-mail through an alternate outbound e-mail server provided by their mobile operator in the event that the default outbound e-mail server becomes inaccessible. The problem occurs if a mobile operator doesn't use this feature, and therefore doesn't supply a value for the alternate SMTP address. When the mobile device fails on any attempt to connect to the e-mail provider's default SMTP server, Windows Mobile 6.1 automatically loads the value for the alternate SMTP server—which in this case is blank. The e-mail account configuration details are then corrupted, which results in loss of the ability to send e-mail with that particular e-mail account." With this fix, the feature is patched to ensure that Windows Mobile 6.1 takes appropriate action when it detects a blank value for the Alternate SMTP server. I tried the WM email hot fix. To no avail. I think because MS states it will only work on 6.1.1-6.1.4 (My Omnia is 6.1) I tried "Buttonboy's fix" (resets some info in the registry), didn't work. I have tried every combination of uninstalling, and reinstalling goth of those fixes together and seperately. The same with the email accounts. I have deleted them, recreated them with new names, installed one or the other. I updated the roaming, I took the battery out. Absolutely positively nothing has worked. I *heart* my Omnia!!! But, after 2 hours of talking to techs....no one had any solution but for me to bring it back, and switch it to another device, or a new Omnia. I do not want another device. I have the Omnia because of it's email/broadband capability, it's WM software, it's camera, and....frankly....it's "cool factor". Verizon will not enable wireless sync on my device (which would have been a very simple easy no-sweat solution), unless I pay MORE for another plan, past the unlimited data plan I have (which made me absolutely murderous!). I asked about an update to WM 6.1 to 6.1.1-6.1.4, so that maybe then the MS fix would work. Nope. I asked VZW what windows units that they have operate on 6.1.1-6.1.4....no one knows. I'm stuck....and it actually caused me to lose sleep last night. My options as of now are: 1. drop my plan back dow, return my omnia, and pick back up my pda. 2. switch out my Omnia for another, and cross my fingers 3. try out a different WM phone (don't wanna!) 4. switch out to a different phone all together (really, really, don't wanna!) Can ANYONE out there help, or offer any suggestions?? Thanks for taking the time to read this!
