Guest Sarah_SPV Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Seven calls to Orange so far to set up GPRS!! Seven, and it's not even working yet! I am on first name terms with all the staff! Now, I work in IT and it's not as if I've just been happily pressing random buttons and hoping it might work. I half know what I'm doing which is more than can be said of Orange Data Support. They've all told me conflicting settings, have 'sent' me SIM updates that never arrive, and then tell me that the network reception in Central London is rubbish and I'll just have to live with it. I'm at the end of my very long tether and am going to kick off big style! Here's my sorry tale for anyone that will listen  Got phone. Read SIM update, deleted and rebooted phone. Little G appears (Hooray!). Fire up Internet Explorer, it dials, then comes up with a blank screen (Oh). Phone Orange six times. Advice differs on each occasion and SIM updates never arrive. Tell my carrier pigeon that he may have to come out of retirement if this keeps up. He's not happy. My seventh call to Orange.... Call Orange. "Hello, my GPRS doesn't work" "OK Madam, let me just pretend I'm pressing some buttons here for a while..... Lalala... Right, let's see. Ah here we go madam and I'll be honest with you here. I'm a complete and utter twat!" "Right you are. Well thanks for your help. Goodbye." I'm off to call them again now! I'm going to ask them what they think a DNS server is. Joy!
Guest Ste Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I got my phone from an orange rep and apparently everything had been set up on my account - it hadn't really - missed out the GPRS. The problem was that I wasn't actually signed up for it so I rang 156 and just told the woman that my GPRS wasn't working. She said I wasn't signed up for it so I asked her to do it for me. She wasn't authorised to do so but said that she would get one of her supervisors to do it and that I would receive a sms later on that evening. I was told to delete this when i got it then soft reboot the phone (turn it off, take out battery for 10 seconds and turn it on again). When you ring them up (although you have probably asked this) just make sure that you are actually signed up for the £6 a month GPRS package as you know what the reps are like. http://www2.modaco.com/smartphone/viewtopi...6d53b0194757424 You might want to check your GPRS settings with these too. There is a more detialed one but I can't seem to find it. No doubt this won't be any help to you either since you've probably already been through the rigmarole.
Guest HelloDave Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I assume you've checked this, but do a search on this forum to find the correct GPRS settings for the SPV and make sure they match your own. The internet is a bit hit and miss on the SPV; try dialing up in several different locations before you give up all hope! I agree O Data Support are useless though - I was onto them for over an hour setting up MMS, and the only thing wrong was that they hadn't sent me the SIM update to enable it! Does a little G come up next to the signal indicator when you try to access the 'net? I have heard having the 'net connection in IE's options set to automatic can cause problems too.
