a number of questions not asked before..

1. when phone starts, it starts with the numeric keypad, placed on top of the contacts list. To get the SIP keyboard, I first tap 'Hide Keypad', only then the SIP icon becomes visible. Is there any way to have the Phone app start with no keypad, or with the SIP one immedeately? Did some reasearch, this seems to be  rather hardcoded and can't be changed.. Now the dialer isn't that bad so I'll just live with it.

2. in some programs (eg Tasks/Appointments/..), but not all, when typing with the Samsung keyboard for instance, the first word gets a capital even though I disabled capitals at the beginning of a sentence. It doesn' matter if using XT9 or abc. Any way to disable this behaviour? Ie, I only want capitals if I tap the caps button.

3. more caps: is there a 'caps lock' in the Samsung keyboard? Repeatedly hit caps key

4. (got asked in other posts as well, no answer): any way to get an unbranded phone to show GPRS/Wireless data usage, or by aid of a free program?

5. a common change for custom roms is to disable a number of built-in programs. This is done by deleteing the executables/dlls/registry keys. How about doing the same thing, but while the phone is running? Eg with RescoFileExplorer you can delete 'live' files. What if I delete all files/reg keys belonging to a program? Would it be gone then?

6. is there a way to do the exact reverse operation of flashing? In other words, transfer all device content to a pc, and create something like pda.bin etc, and pack that into an update.exe?

7. any simple tutorial / source code on how to create basic today widgets? Searching on "source code" did the trick :]

(edit) 8. gps seems to work at any baud rate I tried, without any noticable difference. Any comments on this?

Thanks in advance!

to this question there is a registry fix, just search the forum for how to disable the auto popup of keyboard

I have not encountered this problem that u mention and i am using DZIA5. i think that it is a behaviour that after every point at the end of the sentence, it comes up to capital letters, but strange though, i dont have this issue on my omnia. if i put it in small letters, it always stays small no matter what unless i put it in CAPs button.

3. more caps: is there a 'caps lock' in the Samsung keyboard?

yes , there is a cpas lock in the keyboard. u have to repeatedly press on the "abc" button, it will change to "Abc" meaning that the first letter will be capital and the rest will be small letters, then if u press this buttong again, it will turn to "ABC" meaning that all the letters will be in capital. and if u press it again, i think it goes on to Xt9 input. it is like a cycle: abc->Abc->ABC->Xt9->abc....

4. (got asked in other posts as well, no answer): any way to get an unbranded phone to show GPRS/Wireless data usage, or by aid of a free program?

I have an unbranded i900 and i could find any native program for the data usage measurement, i think only a third party app will help u in this case. but strange enough, i read that i910 users have a "kilobyte counter in their call logs!!!

i dont think it is possible because the files that are installed are then locked as part of the system files. u cannot delete them "live" as the system loads the dlls and reg entries at startup and the files are locked when the system is running. deleting reg entries would only cause the said program to malfunction or not function at all, but u still wont be able to delete the files. and there is no point is deleting the entries but keeping the files as they would be non- or mal- functional but still use space on the device. this is why in custom rom they are removed before installed on the device.

6. is there a way to do the exact reverse operation of flashing? In other words, transfer all device content to a pc, and create something like pda.bin etc, and pack that into an update.exe?

i cant help you with this one B) i am not experienced concerning the reverse engineering and modifications of ROMS.

7. any simple tutorial / source code on how to create basic today widgets?

i read a thread here in the forum abt this, not sure if it is what u are looking for but search for it and see for urself

Thanks in advance!

1. the fix you suggest is for the SIP keyboard popping up automatically in apps requiring text input, not for the numeric keypad in the Phone app, right?

2. try entering text in Settings->User Information->Company for example. Whatever I try, words start with capitals.

3. thanks got it!

5. if I'd first disable the reg keys, then soft reset, windows wouldn't load the dlls anymore so I can delete them. At least that's how things work in othe Windows versions. For files not using reg keys, I can just delete the folder/files (tried that already for a couple of tasks in syakr's kitchen and it works fine). What we'd really need would be something like a 'bootdisc', ie something that runs before windows starts, and allows modifying filesys/registry.

7. cool I'll hit the search button right away.

1. yes fix is for sip keyboard.

2. yes they start with capitals, but not in the emails and text messages. i mean how many times are u gonna change the userinfo-company? B)

just kidding.

5. well windows was around for much longer than windows mobile. just imagine trying to do reg edits in win 3.1 when u first got it. i didnt even know that a registry existed at that time.. lol.

just give it some time,, maybe someone will find some solution to this.
