Guest darkside80 Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Got my Omnia for a few days now and I really love it. Looks good and runs fast. After I got it I've updated the rom to i900DXIA5 firmware and the changed back the regional settings to my country. But now as I got to play around with it more it seams that everything "wireless" has little problems. 1. The phone signal is not always full , even in places where normally other phones have no problem. When online, on a 3g connection I newer have more then 3 lines of signal B). 2.The wireless card has a 30% signal strength with my router in the same spot my desktop has about 95%. 3.(and the biggest)GPS. Google maps with was pre installes on the phone can't detect de gps module. I've tried leaving the settings on automatic and setting them manually (port 9 ,4800 in my case) but no success. Same thing with iGO8.No matter how many times I've tried iGo wont auto detect the gps. After hours of manual settings i got ONCE a gps fix, but now, after I've added in the sys.txt manuali the port for the gps it won't work again :( Could this be a software issue?Or is my omnia defective. Before buying it I've played around with a friends Omnia , never payed attention to the phone signal, but I had no gps problem. His gps port was 4 and a higher baud rate.
Guest dwethiswar Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 upgraded to DXIA5 yesterday; don't seem to have any of the problems you have, so either there's something wrong with your phone, or your in an area with super high EM radiation or so ;] 1. don't have this problem; is it really a problem? as long as there's enough signal so you can call and get data things are fine, no? 2. although 30% isn't much, it's normal thet the omnia has less signal then a desktop or so. I also didn't notice any signal strength change in comparision with my previous firmware, except that the phone finds wirelesss networks much quicker now! 3. haven't tried google maps, but tried IGO8 yesterday (put gps at port 3, 9600 baud), xtra was already downloaded during ActiveSyns session, got a fix in 15seconds with 7 or 8 sattelites. Definately not worse than before.

Guest dwethiswar Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 well normally IGO should be able to find it, but I always set it manually (to match Settings->System->External GPS, use Port you find under Programs and Baud rate under Hardware)

Guest kav Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 totally agree with dwethiswar. i had DZHK3 before and upgraded to DZIA5, phone signal reception is the same and as long as u have even 1 bar, it will not really affect ur call. i think it only affecting the 3G networks for data (internet) use, then i think that the speed is relatively a bit slower( but not sure abt this). i used the HSPDA/3G networks where i live and the signal is max reception and sometimes the signal is only down to 1 or 2 bars, but i never noticed any difference in speed or quality. as for the GPS i have issues with it with the ROM before DZHK3, then in DZHK3 it was a bit faster and now on DZIA5 i get a fix using iGo8 within 2-7 seconds with at least 6-7 satellites. BUT it has to be outdoors (no matter clear sky or not). indoors u will struggle a lot to get a fix. settings in iGO8 for me is port COM 3, baud 4800. in external gps setings, gps program COM is 3 and hardware is COM 9 baud 4800 and access is automatically managed.
Guest dwethiswar Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 try to revert back *everything* that you might have changed on the gps settings (be it manually, in the registry or with a program), or do a hard reset. GPS and IGO work out of the box normally, no need to change anything You say you got a fix once. Was that outdoors?

I have tried outdors again this morning.
Guest kav Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Did a hard reset.Everything is "default" Yes the fix was outdors. I have tried outdors again this morning. u should have enhanced gps download the data and it will implement it in the use of the gps hardware. this will allow u to connect faster to the satellites. and u should always see the gps outdoors, because very few people if not almost no one has good experience with getting a fix indoors. first time it might take a while to get a fix but after that it will be pretty fast i think. just try to go out, ( in the cold weather now!! B) ) get a fix, walk some distance ( or drive a bit) so that it shows ur movements. then next time u start iGo , it will be faster i think. i was wandering why u want to use googlemaps instead of iGO? , google maps require a constant data connection to update the maps and download them, while iGO requires only to download the agps data. i personally dont use the googlemaps at all, never tried it anyway because first it takes ages to initialize the gps to get a fix, secondly i dont have an unlimited data plan with my operator.

If iGO detects ur gps chipset and just cannot get a fix, then dont stress abt the google maps, just use the iGO, its way better IMHO.
Guest darkside80 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 (edited) Finally got the answer for this. Igo was not getting a connection because of Somme wrong settings in sys.txt. The really weird thing is : once I quit iGo, no other gps software will work until i do a soft reset. I someone knows why pls tell me B) Edited March 13, 2009 by darkside80

Guest davey1980 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 sry dude omnia's a grt fone but its down to the GPS chip used. if ur moving it'll connect and pick up ur location in no time. we had this prob b4 and spend ages working out why. standing or walking = ages to connect and drops often diving at speeds = connects fast and smooth. omnia GPS chip is better at filtering out data at speeds for a smoother journey, the HTC type fones GPS chip works better at slow speeds. down to hardware. try default com port and baud rate 57000. ext option off. (dont really matter.) will post nice link to programme later after work.
Guest davey1980 Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 mite want to check this out. http://www.omniadevelopers.com/known-worki...e-omnia-t4.html also a nice GPS tracking feature which is constantly being improved ! http://gccv2.googlecode.com/files/GpsCycleComputer_3.92.CAB made by AndyZap...very nice programme, shows ur speed, route on google maps saved info etc.
