Guest joeelp Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Hi, I just got an omnia earlier today, and I'm pretty disappointed in the camera. I honestly think that there must be something wrong with it, as the picture quality is just terrible. The business card scanner doesn't even have a chance to read any cards I scan at ANY distance, its completely fuzzy. You can't even read the card on the screen when you're trying to take the picture. my settings are: single shot scn: none 2560x1920 high quality auto WB focus on auto iso metering center contrast/saturation/sharpness i've set to 0, 1, -1 nothing worked wdr on and off, nothing worked anti shake on I mean, its definitely broken if it can't read a business card, right? not from 3 inches, not from 30. Like I said, its a Verizon omnia, so I'm not sure about any firmware or rom upgrades that might be available. Thanks, in advance

Thanks, in advance can u upload a sample of the picture u took with ur omnia here. then try entering this code on the dialpad: *#2470# this will upgrade the camera firmware but i dont really know if it is valid ( the code) for the i910, no harm in trying though. oh and yes, make sure the lens is clean on the back, because the oil ( grease or whatever u want to call it B) ) usually causes the pictures to be blurry. and for reading business cards, u cant just use the "regular camera" function, there is a program called smart reader which will automatically set the proper settings to read the business cards. I attached a picture of a business card, this is the absolute best I could do playing with all the settings (yes, including the focus settings) :( I've been trying to peel off any plastic cover over the lens, but there just isn't one. Do I return the phone?
Guest thetwiztidfreak Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Try using the Macro setting when taking pictures up really close like that. and ive noticed mine takes really crummy pics indoors. but outside when its day time they look great.

This is also about as sharp as the smart reader gets, thus it never can import a card.
Guest Akshay_LP Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 If so, you need to get it replaced, if you check the pictures thread here, you'll see the beautiful pictures omnia takes, and mine is pretty good at taking biz. card pics and recognizing them, so I guess you have a faulty camera. Have you tried upgrading your ROM to a newer official one or putting a custom ROM, after all, it might end up being soft-related.

Do I return the phone? Before taking photo, do you press the button half the way and wait for autofocus (green mark)?
Guest joeelp Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 (edited) Before taking photo, do you press the button half the way and wait for autofocus (green mark)? yep. this is basically the best the camera can do. Where can I get a newer, legitimate rom? How do I know what version I have? Could that fix my camera? edit: so since i have a 910 from verizon, it doesn't look like ther are any other roms available. could a vzw store do a firmware update? Can I just take my phone in to there to trade it in for a new one? Edited March 14, 2009 by joeelp

Do I return the phone? i saw on the picture u are holding the card in ur hand. its difficult to get the camera to focus like this. put the card on a flat surface and hold the camera (perpendicular) straight above the card and i think u dont have to press the camera button at all, as soon as the smart reader actually get a focused sharp image it will take the pic automatically and read all the datas. there is an option when using the smart reader, on the right, u can select that it takes the pic automatically, then a frame appears and u have to view the card in that frame, it will autofocus and take the pic automatically. this is actually a very good and helpful program for me as it saves me time in addiing the business cards to my phone, and it eliminates all the typing, saves all the info in a go!!! Its a night and day difference, basically the old phone just wasn't focusing at all. They did a DOA exchange, and its all groovy now B) Thanks!
