Guest natalie1981_cutie Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 Okay, so I've been a little late when it comes to news about my Omnia but I've recently seen a newspaper ad about new widgets for Samsung TouchWiz phones and then saw that a new ROM is now available for download as of March 11th. Can anybody confirm if they have downloaded the New ROM and that there are now new widgets? What's new about the ROM? I haven't had time to update my ROM. It's still HX1.

Anyways, the new widget ads are for all of Samsung's TouchWiz devices including the Omnia: http://www.cellphone-reviews.co.uk/2009/03...s-official.html
Guest DeeinSouthAfrica Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 What no one tells you is that this lovely update is not for 64 bit Vista - or 64 bit XP, I wager. I kept on getting a cute sign asking me to 'Please install Windows Mobile Device Center' first and finally I contacted Samsung. "Sorry, 32 bit versions only at this time..." It would have been nice if they had warned me - all the webpage said was the following - " PC Requirements : Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista™" That to me seems like BOTH versions of OS. Guest kCbAbY Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 has anyone installed DXIA5? is it stable?
Guest Rama .NET Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) has anyone installed DXIA5? is it stable? Yes. It is stable, and I noticed it is little faster than its official preds. --Ram-- Edited March 24, 2009 by Rama .NET
Guest kav Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 has anyone installed DXIA5? is it stable? i have been using DZIA5 for since the day it was posted on the official samsung website, i think it was 25 feb or something. its almost a month now that i am using it and i can say that it is stable, same as the DZHK3. battery life is also good, but when using the camera, it eats up the battery like nothing. thats one of the downs i noticed in the DZIA5. the new widgets are present and u can download more. the touchwiz ui is a bit slower, but nothing too problematic.

B) that is true that they dont mention anything abt the version of vista. but actually not amny people use vista 64bit or XP 64bit. there OS are mainly for running servers, and if u look over the internet, there are not so many applications compatible with the vista 64bit, most of them are 32bit compatible. and most desktop computers which come with vista is 32bit.besides i am not sure if a 64bit application will run smoothly on a 32bit pc hardware/software. what i mean is that i dont think that 1 application can be made to run on both 32bit and 64bit as well. this is why they made the updates for 32bit only, they targeted the majority of users, the minority using vista64bit is very very small.

Sorry, but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. All 32-bit applications that do not require drivers work on 64-bit versions of Windows (most applications that do require drivers however still include 64-bit drivers as well). The install base of Windows Vista 64-bit is actually very large. 64-bit applications do not work at all on 32-bit versions of Windows. Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows XP 64-bit are NOT for running servers, they are client operating systems. The Windows Server family (2000, 2003, 2008) are for running servers. Most new desktop computers (and many new notebook computers) come with Windows Vista 64-bit, not 32-bit. The reason it does not work for 64-bit is because Samsung are lazy. They simply have not written a 64-bit driver for it. Nothing to do with the update application, just a driver. Edited March 25, 2009 by poedgirl

Nothing to do with the update application, just a driver. my bad... i got the things wrong then.abt the running servers thing, i expressed myself in the wrong manner, i meant to say that they are mainly used for more power hungry apps and machines (for eg servers) since they accept more than 4GB of RAM. besides i read that 32bit apps are not backward compatible to 64 bit OS, then the source that i read it from is wrong then i suppose!?but anyhow, most computers come with windows 32bit (vista or XP), not as u mentioned in 64bit, as far as europe is concerned. i have not really seen many laptops or desktop computer coming with more than 4GB RAM and vista 64bit, there are some for sure but they represent a small amount and the price is rather high. anyway, keeping to the topic... i think samsung are not interested in making drivers for 64bit OS, since not many people use these operating systems. actually if they saw that new computers are coming with 64bit OS, they would think abt making the ROMs compatible on them, since it would be all abt marketing. if they didnt make it ,it means that this doesnt represent a large part of their market. or maybe it more simple like they dont care abt microsoft anymore, since their new OMniaHD in running on Symbian. bu then thats not too good news for us.....
